Anyone who has seen Slam Dunk knows that in that genre it is one of the most insurmountable works that we have seen in this medium in a long, long time. Although the genre has not enjoyed such a great fame, or at least there are not as many exponents that became known as much as one would expect, the ones that exist are in fact very good. Today we have to talk about Kuroko no Basket, a sports anime that has swept the public and that managed to raise expectations for the genre that has not been seen for a few years, or at least not in this way.
I am very fond of Kuroko no Basket, because he is one of the first and one of those that made me interested in this type of work, beyond Inazuma Eleven or the careers of Oliver and Benji. Kuroko was the one who made me like the genre, and he made me see others of his kind. Even with everything, I think that like any work it obviously has its negative and positive points, but luckily we are talking about a series that is not going to bore you at any time.
Something I have to clarify is that this anime does not reinvent anything, it is basically about an institute where the main duo go, a short boy and a tall boy, and the objective will be to win tournaments where they will face other teams with experienced, so far as normal let's say. The interesting thing comes now, because Kuroko has a series of characters that name them from the beginning, and it is the trick of creating expectation for what is coming. The so-called Generation of Miracles, was a team of practically invincible players during high school and that for reasons now are separated, and that sooner or later our main team will have to face them. I liked this because it raises your anticipation for the series a lot and because you know who these characters are and what abilities these characters have, this is something that makes it quite interesting and exciting while you watch it. The downside is that these characters make other secondary characters seem less, it focuses too much on the Generation of Miracles and the leading duo, and I consider it a negative point to tell the truth.
By this I don't mean that the supporting characters are bad or lacking in charisma at all. Several characters seem very good to me, although they are not so many, I would say that it is only reduced to those of the leading team and those of the Generation of Miracles, not counting those of some teams that, although they do not have much prominence, they do fulfill the role of you like the characters. It is a pity that they do not fully develop the main team, as for example if Slam Dunk did it, more than anything those of the Generation of Miracles and the couple of some teams have the attention. A lot of the games make them look bad when they don't have their star player, but I still like how the story of the Generation of Miracles and the protagonists unfolds.
The matches are great up to a point. The ones from the first season I liked a lot and the second one too, but we see the error as we progress further, there are more power ups and inconsistencies. I know that the idea is not that it is realistic, not at all, but even within the story itself there is a reality, and with the use of the "powers" in it they make you wonder what you are seeing. I like Kagami as a character, the bad thing is that most of the good moments of the series went to him, and some to Kuroko, and basically he left his team as a spectator, something that does not favor him much if you think about it .
With this I do not want to seem hater of this series, because in fact I liked it, but the truth is that they could have done something much better, because at the beginning it is very good, but as the plot progresses, the games become more predictable. It is something that I really like here, because it is quite effective, but little by little as the series progresses, he puts it aside to focus more on the games.
The animation seemed pretty good in general to me, it is true that there are moments where the quality drops, which is normal, but it is nothing to be alarmed about, it is still very good in all its seasons. When you witness the scenes of this series, you notice that many of them have aspects that a manga cannot have, thanks to its animation and its soundtrack, quite impressive things are achieved.
In short, Kuroko no Basket is a good series, it is excellent for its genre and for the type of audience it is aimed at, as I said, it is a series that is not going to bore you, and that is a plus. Obviously it has its negative points like any work, but even so it still seems good to me, I recommend it to basically anyone, whether you like the genre or not, however you will find something that will hook you to continue watching it until the end.
