first one goddess made later two...
Bastet or Bast is an Ancient Egyptian name for one of the well-known goddess of ancient Egyptian. Her name also is rendered as B'sst, Baast, Ubaste and Baset.
In ancient Greek times, she was known as Ailuros what means simple "cat".
Bastet was worshipped in Bubastis in Lower Egypt. Original Bastet was not a cat, she was a lioness goddess, a role shared by other deities such as Sekhmet. But after a while bast was the cat and Sekhmet the lion.
Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, some wrote that Sekhmet was the darker character of Bastet. Sekhmet was the fighter, warrior and also goddess of War, if I remember right. Sekhmet representing the powerful warrior and protector aspect and Bastet, who increasingly was depicted as a cat, representing a gentler and softer characteristic aspect.
In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet or Sachmis is also spelled Sakhmet, Sekhet, Sakhet, or Scheme, and aaaaa looooooot of other spellings. Just wanted to name some. Sekhmet is a warrior goddess as well as a goddess of healing. A healing warrior you could say.
She is depicted as a lioness. In ancient times this character was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare. Upon death, Sekhmet continued to protect them, bearing them to the afterlife.
In an ancient mythology about "the end of Ra's rule on the earth" , Ra sent the goddess Hathor, but in the form of Sekhmet, to destroy mortals who conspired against him. In this legend, Sekhmet's blood-lust wasn't quenched at the end of battle that led to her destroying almost all of life on earth. To stop her incredible bloodlust, Ra poured out beer dyed with red ochre or maybe hematite so that it resembled blood. Sekhmet did not recognized the trick and mistaking the beer for blood, in her bloodlust she became so drunk that she gave up the slaughter and returned peacefully to Ra. For sure with a badly hangover.... Lmao. Could a God or goddess become an hangover?
Which Form you see on my ArtCollage?
First I wanted to draw Bast, bit because of the helmet/ globe and a bit more fighter style maybe it's Sekhmet?
I used old ancient pictures from an art magazine. Cut out old ancient globes and a sandclock.
At first I wanted a colorful picture but after painting it I switched my mood to black and more darker colors.
Because of many patterns of color it took me ~ 10 days to finish.
Ah yes, some steps I forgot to photograph over the days. Sorry for that.
After finishing in real world I digitalised it too.
Which variation you like more?
Feel free to leave me a comment.
