It has been almost 3 weeks since I last tried drawing and since I last posted, apparently. I have been so busy with he mining season and with life events with my family that I barely had time for myself to even relax and draw/sketch. Fortunately I got sick yesterday so I had some time to do a quick sketch while my sister's dragged me out to get our dog groomed. I know I'm supposed to be resting when I'm sick but I think drawing counts as rest too and I think I'll lose touch of my drawing capabilities.
If you guys can recall the semi-sketch and render thing I did when I first got my tablet... I kind of tried to do that again because I really liked that messy and unfinished style yet somehow it just looks complete like that. I really want to master that so maybe in the next few days, I'll work on that style a little more and also, maybe I'd try to commission that style when the season loosens up? I'm not sure, but I definitely have a few more months of busy-Ness to practice. Cuz when the season ends, no more overtime and no more extra money for me so I definitely have to find ways to save again.
Anyway, here's what I worked on in the 1 hour dog-grooming session.
Duration: 1 hour
Software: Medibang paint
So I used a combination of brushes here because I've been exploring more brushes lately. Like... I try to draw but I can't manage to finish anything so I'm just trying to figure out which works with what and what each brush can offer me.
So it started off with this nice 10-minute sketch when I got bored of watching my dog get shaved. And I kind of liked where it was going so I did a bit more detailing.
So from the pencil brush, I switched to the watercolor brush to blend it out but also have a bit of definition and shape to the rendering process because I still like seeing the idea of what I'm doing. Then the watercolor brush also kind of blurs out the guidelines I made in initial sketch. Since I usually just work on a single layer. IDK I'm lazy like that. Rarely do I use multiple layers unless I want to ad accessories or if I want to keep things separate. Otherwise, I'd stick to the single layer.
I also try to avoid confusing myself with so many layers because I really do get confused with the layers when I have like 4-5 layers open. So what I do no is I just keep merging and merging the layers whenever I add a new color or if I want more definition and details on a certain area. I haven't been doing that technique in a while now, though.
At this point, I worked in an airbrush layer. I needed that even and opaque color layer that the watercolor brush just can't make since it keeps blending in. At least airbrush doesn't blend so if you need a solid color as it is, this is your choice.
I'm surprised I didn't use the finger blush this time though. I usually use that to blend the colors in sometimes, and to kind of use as a soft eraser because I like how it does the edges sometimes, but this time, it was uncalled for.
After an hour of working on this and a few sips of iced coffee, we went home and now I have a sleeping grampa that feels better after a clean shave.
Say hi to Sebastian! We will be going back to sleeping now. Thank you for stopping by!
