Hey there, Alien Art Hive!😎🔥🖤
It's your humble servant (and a bit of a rebel) from the art world, reporting for duty!
As you all know, this is the place where we share our creativity and "level up" our skills. And even though I've been hugging my pencil and paper less often over the past three years, it doesn't mean my brushes have gathered dust! It just means my canvas is now... a bit non-traditional. Yes, I'm talking about a client's skin, and today I bring you the creation story of my coolest (and curviest!) tattoo project—my original take on the legendary Princess Zelda!
I want to apologize in advance to the die-hard fans if my Zelda turned out to be more... ahem... feminine and shapely. But as you'll see in the story, this was a conscious creative choice! 😉
How It All Started: A Boring Sketch and Eyes That Lit Up ⚡️🫣
One day, a client walked into the studio. He was a big guy and immediately declared that he wanted a large tattoo covering his entire upper arm. The theme? Of course, Zelda! My eyes immediately lit up, because The Legend of Zelda is my personal time machine back to those very good, carefree times.
He showed me his reference—a simple, slightly sad sketch of Zelda, similar to the one in the second image. I don't know, maybe she was just having a bad day... But for such a large bicep, it was, to put it mildly, unimpressive.
Without hesitation, I used my signature line: "Listen, give me total creative freedom, and I promise I'll create something that makes you squeal with delight!" To his credit, he trusted me.
🔥 The Inner Rebellion: From Tiny Flowers to Realism!
I spent the next few days hunting for the perfect inspiration. I sifted through tons of references, but my attention landed on an AI art piece where the princess looked completely different. More vibrant, detailed, and yes, with more defined curves. After all, who says a princess can't be "wow"?
I sifted through tons of references, but my attention landed on an AI art piece where the princess looked completely different. (I want to note right away that this art is not mine; it was found on Pinterest and created by an AI, but it inspired my concept!)
And besides... I decided to challenge my inner artist. You see, for 6 years in Ukraine, I was an art teacher, participated in exhibitions, and loved realism. But in my new studio, my boss kept giving me “easy” projects and small, cute tattoos. My inner realist, who thrives on complex textures and shadows, was practically suffocating!
And this project, covering a whole arm, with detailed work on the background, clothes, and face—this was my chance! Time to reclaim realism!
The Epic Battle and the Happy Ending 😇🙏😎
When the client came in for the session and I showed him the final design (the one that is now gracing his arm), his eyes sparkled! It wasn't just interest; it was genuine, childlike anticipation. Now that's what I call real magic of creation!
The work itself was colossal:
• 1st Session (7 hours): I focused on Zelda's clothing and the corset details. It was intricate, jewelry-level work on the textures.
• 2nd Session (6 hours): The face, hair, and the background! Oh, that background—mountains, trees, waterfalls... a genuine Hyrule landscape on his arm!
Total: 13 hours of pure, intense realism. My back said "goodbye" to me, but my inner artist was ecstatic!
In the end, the client was absolutely thrilled. And what was the funniest and nicest part? He came back to the studio with a large gift for me! It was so sweet and... unexpected, considering my work isn't free! But it was the best proof that I didn't just give him a tattoo; I created something truly special for him.
