The Princess Pink Philodendron is a very real and very pink plant so I wanted it to have a princess pink animal, in this cat a darling short hair Himalayan kitten.
You'll recall the sketch I shared in my last post, I believe:
I think in my sketch our kitten looked more annoyed with the plant whilst when painting it in she became more enthralled with it.
As a lover of animals and plants I suppose I can see both sides of this view. I love houseplants (tho am more of a garden plant aficionado) but those lines blur. In the Summer Most of my houseplants are now enjoying the out of doors. I give them a little holiday in the Summer and it's easier to care for them when they are outside in warmer days.
Then in Autumn and Winter I bring in some outdoor plants as houseplants as well, so the line is blurred.
I went almost florescent with the pinks in the plant, but they really are an amazing color for a living plant. I wanted it to glow in a way almost making it a bit alien and thus our cat looks transfixed by it.
Is the plant controlling the cat or vice versa?
I had an annoying thing happen when creating this in the digital bits, as I had thought I saved the Inked layers of this separately for my current project, which needs the 'uncolored bits' of this series to be a separate piece and after closing my old programme and going to make new sized saved images I've only the full colored in version left...
This means I either have to had delete all the colors or draw it over again in digital ink. I've not decided which is less annoying so I'll probably move onto the next animal and plant on my drawing board to give this one a rest.
I also realized today it's been 5 days since my last post! I hadn't known it got away from me again, but we've hit a crucial stage with my Mother in law in her nursing home that could (touch wood) lead to her coming home before Summer ends. It's a lot to do to prepare the house, set up things and such, so the days have just got away from me again.
It's hard to believe Summer is more than halfway done but it has been an interesting one. I'm glad to still be here, on Hive,(if even with that 5 day lag) as when after a busy day, having that to look forward to post does help make even less time in the Studio feel more worthwhile.
I hope all of you have a lovely day and find a moment to indulge in your passions.
