Of the huge number of Slavic tales and vivid characters, I have always liked the stories not about gentle heroines who so predictably needed to be saved from danger and villains, but about strong female warriors who are ready not only to stand up for themselves, but also to save those they love.

A striking example of such a heroine is Vasilisa Mikulishna.
On the advice of envious boyars, Prince Vladimir put Stavr in an earthen cellar, and for the beautiful Vasilisa sent his heroes. Having learned about the ridicule and trouble that happened to her beloved husband, Vasilisa Mikulishna cut her blond braids, changed into a man's dress and went to the company with 50 riders in the capital. On the way, Vasilisa met the heroes-envoys of Prince Vladimir and, posing as a terrible and formidable ambassador, turned the capital's messengers back.
Prince Vladimir gave the young ambassador a gorgeous reception, but for Vasilisa the goal was only one - to save his beloved. The brave wife had to go through all the tests: Vasilisa steamed in a hot bath, played cards with enemies and fought with other heroes. As a result of the victory, this brave woman demanded that the prince release Stavr from imprisonment and went home with her husband.
