I missed week 246 π But I am happy that a lot of my friends are on the list of winners woohoo! π I am busy since the start of June and probably until mid-August as I am working on something right now. I always push myself to have time to join every week but last week is really brutal so I have to pass.
Oh, wellsss. π For this week, I chose Feasting Seaweed!
The card is uncomfy, haha. I feel like drowning just looking at it. π Fact, I do not know how to swim and I have a fear of deep water and whales, ugh! Remember the news about the Titan submarine? That's the ultimate fear! Small space and deep water. π The last time I went too far off the shore was when I was kayaking in Palawan, Philippines because my sister insisted me to. I want her to be happy so I just did it. π€£
Art Process
First is to find a hand specifically the fingers reaching on the surface. I really need a reference because hands are hard to draw (Well, for me) because they are so organic. π€£ I chose an unsaturated almost-gray color with an undertone of brown. The color of a zombie in short, π. I chose a gradient background color of black and dark blue. I drew the first seaweed using an ink pen.
Here is the more detailed coloring I did with the hand. The highlights are sort of the color of lime, just for reflection on the fingers. I shaded the darker browns on the corners and blend them with reddish-brown. As I move to the flatter surface, I added more of the lighter brown. I finished it with a textured brush. The hand is like rotten. π π
More seaweeds! I use different shades of green too to separate from each other, and also for depths. I drew them once or twice and adjust them to get the right swirls. Some seaweeds are wrapped around the hand as if pulling it down.
Instead of those scary flowers from the original card, I thought of changing them to spider lilies. These bright flowers are native throughout Asia. Spider lilies symbolize final goodbyes, but on the lighter side, they symbolize love, courage, and wisdom.
I used the same ink pen to draw the flowers. The mouths remind me of the SPL logo. π I just copy and paste them and then position them throughout the seaweeds.
Final Art
I added a multiply layer on top and adjusted the opacity of the color. I added noise circles scattered around the hand and the seaweed. A little light from the surface, I added another layer on top and set it to Add Glow.
