Bloomfen
This is my interpretation of the Bloomfen character from the Charactober drawing challenge. This challenge is a character design challenge and this week the focus of the characters is Plant and Growth and that makes me excited to create my own.
Here is my own lore for this character.
Bloomfen dances to keep herself alive. When her body fills with too much bloom, she spins graceful like a flamenco dancer, to shake the weight off. The petals fall because she can’t contain all that life as it bursts through her skin, glowing for a moment before fading. Each petal that touches the ground becomes soil again, feeding the roots from which she came. She dances to stop the stillness from swallowing her whole. If she ever stops moving, the flowers will grow over her body, and she’ll vanish beneath her own garden like a curse.
Here are my thoughts on how I came up with my design
I am thinking more human this time compared with the two other tree like characters I did for the same challenge. Bloomfen is said to be beautiful and ethereal and I think my character should somehow look like human.
Wearing a sheer long flowy garment to bring in that magic and air
I changed my mind because the prompt requires petals falling and sprouting out of her skin but here I have overdone the size and still no petals on the skin.
Something is telling me that the previous two sketches are not coherent with the previous characters I made so I decided to change it again. Basic fluid lines and this time it is looking a little alien. Head looks like a bud that is about to grow some petals. The neckline and collar as well as the cape suggest leaves and petals. I think this is the final character.
The final version of the line drawing. I changed the head to show more petals and not look like an ordinary cap. The eyes are now more slanted like the shape of a daisy petal. The cape the collar and bib had more intricate details echoing the serrations of leaves. The inside of the cape I made more fluid and rounded like petals. I am not sure about the four black bands on her trunk I need to fill that blank space and these are what I added. She is barefoot and feet looking like wood.
I added more petals on the neck it is now looking bulky. There is no defined hands on my previous drawing here I added a pair and the arms are covered with more petals to finally lock that prompt in which is petals sprouting from its skin. I am still playing with the colors here but the final decision is I went for warm pink and varied its value then added green and yellow for accent.
This is one of the characters I designed under the same plant and growth motif like Bloomfen here is Rootwarden another character I made for the plant and growth motif
