Artwork: Gas Prices Increase
I made this collage artwork using a photo. Umm… gas prices have been increasing a lot these days, as you know. I wanted to use the original photo straight away for my blog, but then I thought about turning it into an art piece to reflect the situation in the world.
It’s both scary and fascinating to realize that I am witnessing real history unfolding, something I always wondered about when I was in school. The first time I remember learning about war was in early elementary school, perhaps in first grade. My homeroom teacher was very honest and told us about war. He didn’t hide the negative aspects, including the worst parts.
I couldn’t easily ask my grandparents about war, even though they experienced World War II, because I could sense their pain. Still, little by little, I read and watched materials about war. Of course, it wasn’t simple or easy to understand or accept the reality.
Nowadays, it feels like we are living witnesses to wars. We know the issues clearly, yet solving them isn’t easy. It’s frustrating, but we have to face the situation and do what we can to respond.

ガソリン代高騰アート
写真を使ってコラージュ作品を作りました。うーん…みなさんもご存知の通り、最近ガソリン代がかなり高騰しています。もともとはブログ用にこの写真をそのまま使おうと思っていたのですが、世界の状況を表現するアート作品にしようと考え直しました。
自分がまさに歴史の証人となっていることを目の当たりにするのは、怖くもあり、興味深くもあります。学生のときから、ずっとそういうことに疑問を持っていました。私が初めて戦争について学んだのは、小学校の低学年の頃だったと思います。たぶん１年生のときです。担任の先生はとても正直な方で、戦争について教えてくれました。戦争の悪い面や最悪の面も隠さずに話してくれました。
第二次世界大戦を経験した祖父母に戦争のことを気軽に聞くことはできませんでした。祖父母の痛みを感じたからです。それでも、少しずつ戦争についての本を読んだり映像を見たりしました。もちろん、現実を理解して受け入れることは簡単ではありませんでした。
今、私たちは戦争の生き証人のように感じます。問題ははっきりとわかっているのに、簡単には解決できません。それはとてももどかしいことですが、この状況に向き合い、できることをしていくしかないのではないかと考えます。
