The illustration I’m going to show you today is for the April art challenge, organized by #nftsshowroom and #alienarthive, with the theme Flora and Fauna
Inspired by the wildlife of South America, I created a pixel art piece of a little animal that has become very popular in the region in recent times—none other than the “capybara,” “carpincho,” or, as we call it here in Venezuela, “chigüe.”
Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world; they are native to the tropical regions of South America and have won the world’s affection for their relaxed and sociable nature. They are semi-aquatic animals, making them excellent swimmers that inhabit areas near rivers, lagoons, and freshwater bodies.

Inspirandome en la fauna de sudamérica, hice un pixel art de un animalito que se ha vuelto muy popular en la región en los últimos tiempos, se trata nada más y nada menos que de el "capibara", "carpincho" o como le decimos aquí en Venezuela "chiguire"
Los capibaras son los roedores más grandes del mundo, son originarios de las zonas tropicales de sudamérica y se han ganado el cariño del mundo por su actitud relajada y sociable. Son animales semi acuáticos, por lo cual son excelentes nadadores que habitan cerca de los ríos, lagunas y lugares de agua dulce.
Creative Process 🎨 Proceso Creativo
In my illustration, I’ve depicted one of these little creatures sitting in the calm waters of a river, in a state of total comfort and relaxation, which is reflected in its expression and defines it; I’ve added some butterflies, since capybaras are animals that coexist peacefully with any other animal, regardless of species, as they are extremely peaceful and friendly creatures.
En mi ilustración he representado a uno de estos animalitos, sentado en las tranquilas aguas de un río, en un estado completo de confort y relax, la cual se refleja en su expresión y la cual lo caracteriza, agregué algunas mariposas, ya que los capibaras son animales que conviven tranquilamente con cualquier tipo de animal, independientemente de su especie, ya que son animales extremadamente pacíficos y amigables.
As for the process, I started by sketching the capybara, since it is the focal point of the illustration, and then I added shadows and highlights in brown tones that match its fur to this capybara sketch.
En cuanto al proceso, parti creando la figura del capibara, ya que este es el centro de atención de la ilustración y a este boceto de capibara le añadí sombras y luces en tonos marrones propios de su pelaje.
I proceeded to sketch the water where the animal is standing and decorated the surroundings with some bushes and trees, with a beautiful sky in the background.
Procedi a dibujar el agua donde está posado el animal y decoré su entorno con algunos arbustos y árboles y detrás un hermoso cielo.
And to finish off the illustration, I added three monarch butterflies fluttering around.
