Inktober is a drawing challenge that involves creating a drawing every day in October based on a series of words or phrases. It encourages people to draw and improve their drawing skills. It was created by Jake Parker and was originally a challenge where participants had to draw with ink and, obviously, using traditional methods, but over the years people have participated using a variety of materials, both traditional and digital. This year, I decided to complete the House of Wizard Inktober challenge, and I will be following each daily theme to the letter.

Inktober es un reto de dibujo, el cual consiste en hacer un dibujo cada día del mes de octubre, mediante una serie de palabras o frases. Incentivando a las personas a dibujar y mejorar en el dibujo. Fue creado por Jake Parker y originalmente es un reto en donde la persona tiene que dibujar con tinta y evidentemente en tradicional, pero a lo largo de los años las personas participan con diversos materiales, ya sea en tradicional o digital. Para este año, me propuse terminar el Inktober de House of Wizard y es el que estaré siendo al pie de la letra cada tema diario.

To get some inspiration and start drawing, I looked for a rose on Pinterest and used that as a starting point for my drawing. My idea was to draw the rose growing out of a skull buried in the ground, with some hands around it, as if trying to grab it.

Para tomar una referencia e iniciar con el dibujo, lo que hice fue buscar una rosa en Pinterest y de ahí partí a hacer mi dibujo. Mi idea era hacer la rosa saliendo de un cráneo enterrado en el suelo y que tuviese algunas manos a su alrededor, como queriéndola agarrar.

I start by structuring the entire sketch, creating each element that I want to include in the drawing. Once I have the sketch ready, I begin to clean it up a bit with the help of a kneaded eraser. As you know, before I start adding details to the drawing, I like to remove the excess graphite from the pencil so that it doesn't smudge the drawing.

Comienzo estructurando todo el boceto, haciendo cada elemento que quería integrar en el dibujo. Una vez tengo listo el boceto, lo que hago es comenzara a limpiar un poco el mismo, con ayuda de un borrador moldeable. Ya saben que antes de comenzar a detallar el dibujo, me gusta quitar el exceso de grafito en el miso y así no manchar el dibujo.

Once I have cleaned up the sketch, I begin to add detail with paint. The truth is that in this step, I am simply painting everything step by step and calmly. It is just me and the paint bringing the drawing to life. I start by adding shadows and then add another layer of paint with more pigment in certain areas to give the drawing a little more contrast, and then I let everything dry.

Cuando tengo limpio el boceto, comienzo a detallarlo con la pintura. La verdad es que en este paso solo estoy pintando todo paso a paso y tranquilamente, solo soy yo y la pintura dándole vida al dibujo. Voy agregando de principio las sombras y luego agregar otra capa de pintura con mas pigmento en ciertas zonas para darle un poco mas de contraste al dibujo y dejo secar todo.

Once everything is dry, I take my mechanical pencils and begin to define the drawing. This step helps me to further define the drawing and make the elements in it stand out. I add line art to the areas where I feel it is needed, and after that, I add the final details, such as some highlights and my signature, and that's it, folks, that's all there is to it.

Una vez seco todo, tomo mis portaminas y comienza a definir el dibujo. Este paso me ayuda a definir mas el dibujo y que se vean bien los elementos en el mismo. Agrego line art en las zonas que sienta que le hace falta y luego de eso, agrego los últimos detalles, como algunos brillos y mi firma y listo amigos, eso seria todo.
