"Da Da Da" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] The Universe is in balance. Or NOT in balance. The skulls go UP. The skulls go DOWN:::: There is a balance, but not of the type humans recognize... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Strobing Art Supplies" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Photograph taken with my phone, phreaked with the MOSH-machine, and animated with a free app.] This is a pile of craft and art supplies sitting on a folding table under a tent in our backyard. I was DRAWN to take a photo of it. Then I messed with the photo. NOW, the image looks more like how I saw it to begin with!!! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Listening Skills" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Ballpoint pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] I just like it! The colors turned out really neat, the fragments or language are weird and nonsensical, and it makes me happy! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

Here's a thought... I've written serialized stories before for various blogs, but I've never tried making a serialized story, SPECIFICALLY, as cryptoart. In a sense, ALL of my artwork is serialized psycho-biography, but people shouldn't be expected to understand that from a cursory exploration of my silly cartoons or wordart pieces. What an innocent reader COULD get is if I explicitly stylized a number of cryptoart pieces AS a series of "connected" stories. Knowing ME like I do (or knowing the "Author" within me,) there is little chance that this will be a typical fiction tale. It's more likely to be a FREAKY, horror comedy with psychologically disturbing yet cartoonlike nonsense at its core... (WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW, THEY SAY...) I kinda like this idea. I should make it into a PLAN...

"Beat Up Zombie" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Ghost Sign" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Digital photograph taken with my phone of a metal sign found on a wooden fence in Enchanted Forest amusement park in Oregon State, USA. The fence is exposed to the ravages of Pacific-Northwestern weather, so you know the sign has had a HELL of a time!] I tweaked the colors a bit, but not too much. Kinda creepy, right? ---Richard F. "Stabby is a Bad Guy" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Blue gel pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] That's not a nickname. His parents CALLED HIM STABBY! They knew (but they did nothing to stop him when he was young and powerless...) Now, we ALL must suffer. ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

Why do I do this??? I mean, I'm just an old, broken-down grandpa, sitting in a room in the Pacific Northwest who can write a bit and draw a bit less, yet I inflict my cartoons and strange word choices on the world just about every dang day... Who is MAKING me do this? What am I hoping to achieve? I don't know.
But I do it...

"Is It Hopeless?" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Ultra fine point Sharpie and crayon on paper with digital embellishments and color tweaking.] What is the purpose of your art? I enjoy making stuff, but it also works as a buffer. I can emote and gush and weird out on paper in a way that wouldn't be quite as acceptable if I were to do it vocally. I mean, I DO say odd things in public, but most people think I'm just being silly...and I am, I suppose... But on paper, I get to do things like THIS! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
