Luck is expensive. The flash of indifference can cause skin discoloration, but nothing as extreme as getting a tattoo. (I wonder where I'm going with any of this...) I guess I'm just saying, these are trying times...

"Trying Times" by RFY (HF)
[Felt pen and colored pencil on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] Life has been rather...challenging lately. We keep on keepin' on, but I still gotta express the fragmentation and ouchiness... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Wack-a Doo (Raw)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen, paint pen, and gel pen on tinted paper with digital embellishments and color tweaking.] This is the RAW hand applied directly to the paper. I rarely have intention - and that's fine. Intention is almost irrelevant when it comes to art. The MEANING is mostly injected by the viewer... (It's what makes art so fun!) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Lewd Television Distance" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] This falls in the category of "erasure poetry," but it's erasure via cropping! (And, yeah, this is from my actual notebook. I don't bother to make sense, even to myself, anymore. It's what keeps the game interesting!) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

[Posted to Type.art]:
I've been anxious and stressed lately, which is definitely the kind of opening line that will hook a reader into continuing reading your writing! My brain is even more broken than usual. Mariah thinks I need to up my meds, but I'm afraid it will further disintegrate my ability to write. I've mostly become a bad artist because I can't be a good writer anymore! But I still have the urges... I love stories, and I used to absolutely love creating characters and worlds (and monsters, of course...)
So, doesn't that just beg the question: Why not just WRITE SOMETHING?
Writing is hard, particularly fiction writing. Not only does an author need to come up with characters and a plot, but the writer has to put these characters into realistic motion, plan what's happening and WHY it's happening, and show the reader EVERYTHING that exists and happens in a story's universe in an interesting and clear enough way that a reader not only CAN follow the tale but WANTS TO READ all the way to the end. A writer's brain has to work!
Mine doesn't... Not like it used to.
I've considered several writing tricks/techniques: freewriting, creating a universal bible for a story series, doing pdf-zines, even writing little scripts and recording them as audio performances...And some of these ideas still seem appealing and useful to me, but at the moment, I don't really know what the OVERALL GOAL for my urge actually is. I want to tell stories. I've always loved telling stories. But where? How? In a blog? As a magazine? A podcast?
I don't know...
Anyone have any thoughts??? Thoughts that I could borrow??? Let me know!

[Digital drawing created in a no-longer-supported, free app on my phone with digital color manipulation, layers, and moshing!] I do believe that I drew this on my phone with my eyes closed. The fact that it looks slightly better than my usual ("eyes open") work supports the truth of this memory... (It's not PROOF, but it is evidence...) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
