While doing some research about isometric graphic/drawing design, I was thinking to myself... the best research is to be able to feel it yourself. SNIFF IT. I'm not a digital drawing artist, but you're never going to be one if you aren't trying. Right?
Since I thought it was a good idea to get some achievements done through LeoFinance's campaign instead of getting them playing videogames, I kinda forced myself to create some art as well!
I'm using a Wacom Tablet and Photoshop. The first step is to create an isometric grid. Since photoshop isn't making these grids themselves, I had to draw some lines. Skew them exactly at 86.602%, rotate them -30 degrees, and another magic trick after that, gets the job done.
I thought it would be cool to have two different platforms for the dragon and the lion to be battling on. The lion, of course in a sandy environment versus the dragon, which made me think of lava and stony mountains. I first drew some basic shapes, which I later colored and textured with some highlights and different colors.
The cool thing with isometric drawings is that you can rotate them horizontally, and everything should still look realistic.
After drawing some shapes, I colored them and blended them with the smudge tool. This worked pretty well with the stone platform.
Moving things around should be easy with an isometric design. You can make 1 asset, 1) duplicate it, 2) transform it and it should still fit with the rest of the artwork. While I know there are pretty talented artists out here who can do a much better job than I,a concept like this can be scalable when you think about making NFTs for . So, if there are any artists out there who like the idea, feel free to copy it and make it 100x better :D (with your own vision of course)
While the dragon looks pretty dead to me, I'm missing some action, which with my basic drawing skills can be pretttyy darn difficult to achieve. But I think the last few details did the trick and gave the extra dynamic touch I was looking for.
Cheers!
