Helo Dear Aliens, Helo Hive! 👽
Today I want to share with you my new musical composition - Snowflex. This piece is made in the genre of Liquid Drum and Bass, it is airy and light. This will be a meaningful post, I will walk you through the process of creating a track. Let's go!
Soundcloud:
Intro:
Since the previous post with my music, I wasted no time on a new work. I really enjoyed creating those vibe bass lines and rich percussive rhythm patterns, so I could not deny myself this pleasure and you in fresh, author's music that no one has heard before. I'll start with the fact that Liquid Drum and Bass are one of my favorites in music styles when I'm on a trip, doing sports or drawing pictures, and I'm also always happy to go to the sea to take a walk along the coast for this soulful, light musical genre . When I listen to different performers of this genre, I always emphasize for myself different points, details and aspects of its structure. when I return home, sometimes I already have an idea in my head of what I will do and how I will do it, in a word - I bring my idea to the studio in order to execute it. Although it doesn't happen often, and in most cases I come to the studio to do my favorite thing, namely, making music. Over the years, I realized that I can’t live without it, for me it’s a way to convey my emotions through music, I love it and can’t imagine my days without it, so I constantly invent something in my sequencer.
About Track:
The project turned out to be quite cumbersome and extensive. I spent a lot of time on small details that fill the concept, I work painstakingly on each element of the composition. For example, yesterday I went to bed at about 3 am, I was thinking about how to develop my new musical idea, I was thinking about something and it didn’t give me the opportunity to fall asleep, as soon as I got to something interesting in my thoughts , I got up, turned on the light and sat back at the computer to work on the project for a bit. it often happens that by the morning when I wake up I lose some ideas that I came up with, so I taught myself not to be lazy and either write them down in a notebook or go and immediately implement so as not to miss anything. And so, the project of my new musical composition looks like this:
Project:
In parallel with writing new music, I am also creating a manual on how to use certain plug-ins, how to process sound. And to be honest, this track began with the fact that I recorded how I created a light air pad in the ANA 2 synthesizer, by the way, this is my recent acquisition, it is very good for creating electronic music, I would even say it is one of the top five virtual synths that I use , plus everything, it was released quite recently, so studying it is a pleasure for me. First of all, of course, I started with chords, since I study musical theory, chord structures and I already have some knowledge in my head, but there is always room to develop, which I do. I decided to create something cosmically nostalgic if you can call it that, in a simple way - I wanted to do something connected with feelings, with tenderness, warmth, love and a bit of sadness. This track started with this, as soon as I made the main pad for the track, I started creating the bass part, one of my favorites, I can repeat myself, but when I add a bass line to the track, it immediately comes to life and acquires colors, dynamics and space . Below is a screenshot of the synth settings I created for this pad, use it, give it a try!
ANA 2 Pad Settings:
Ana 2 was also processed with my favorite Valhalla reverberators, I rarely process the sound in the synths themselves, although there is such an opportunity, but as for me, third-party separate processing is always cooler, because the plugin itself often does not have such advanced settings and is more sweeping functionality. Recently, I started doing reverb on some bass lines, although someone thinks that this is unacceptable, I still want to reassure you and assure you that it is possible to do this! I didn’t come up with this, many people do it, it can always give the track new shades, the main thing for this, of course, is not to overdo it so that it doesn’t turn out to be porridge, but a little bit - it’s quite possible. To create depth, I have this reverb and in some cases a saturator on almost all channels of the mixer, I add it a little bit everywhere, for the width and depth of the sound. I will show how I processed the vocals, because the vocals have become a very important element in this track, I think when you listen you will understand how much it gives the track - tenderness and airiness, this is how I processed the vocals on the Valhalla reverb:

Now I would like to tell you about reese bass, as always, for this I chose a synthesizer - Serum from XFer, in my opinion this is the most powerful synthesizer that a person has ever come up with, this is not a joke at all, you can wind up super sounds on it, its functionality allows work on a grand scale and do not deny myself anything, sometimes I use ready-made presets - this is when I'm lazy, but when I'm not lazy, I wind up the sound I need on my own, as in this track I wound up the bass sound myself, I will look at the manuals a lot about this and I have an idea of how to create a shrill bass or a deep soft one, I can’t take that away from me, hehe. In the screenshot below you can see how to create a similar bass, it shows all my settings. I think the most important thing in creating a bass for Liquid Drum and Bass music is its sound density, how the notes pass to each other, for this you always need to turn on the mono mode and make transition slides, as I specifically and many composers I know do , in any case, I always try to turn the synth knobs as the composition requires, here variability is important, and for each track I create different settings, it is for this reason that I show you a screenshot of the presets that I created for this musical composition, here they are :

OTT:
Well, in conclusion, we will talk about processing, I will not tell you how I equalized the tracks on the mixer, I showed it in my previous post, and told why, what and how. Today I will tell you about the processing on the master channel, I used the compressor from Xfer - OTT, to be honest, I started using it not so long ago, and I couldn’t even think that such a simple and small compressor can do such big things, it’s incredible but it really gives the sound is a huge plus in sound quality, you can’t tell by sight, but it’s true. More or less average OTT values give the track more transparency, it emphasizes the elements of the composition, but there is one trick - if you use it with the analyzer - Total Balance Control 2, you can always pull up the frequencies of the track as it should be, I saw how it is used in professional studios when creating mastering, it really affects the sound a lot, I recommend it. Also on the master channel I have a limiter and a plug-in - Soothe2, it will always let me know where unnecessary frequencies stick out and fix it, I also saw it with the pros in the studios. In some cases I use Retro Color 20, but it's more in hip-hop style and its sub cultures, but gives a vintage look to the track, this time I mixed it quite a bit on the vocals.
Almost forgot, hehe. I would also like to draw your attention to the melody of the track, I made it on the Repro-5 synthesizer, I wound up the sound of a certain space sound, such as we could hear in bright EDM compositions, it seemed to me that it goes well with the base of the track, it also suits the pad and to the bass, and to the vocals, and in general to the mood of the musical composition, that's how I made the melody, all the notes in the key, no deviations.
