Splinterlands Fan Art - Frost Lion
Hello everyone! I am back to creating more Splinterlands fan art. For this fan art, I have drawn Frost Lion, a Common Water Unit from the Azmare Dice card set. I chose something with a simple structure and colors to help me improve my drawing skills. So I thought I would share it here. I find the result really cute. 😄
Here is the card reference image of Frost Lion in Splinterlands.
The vast plain of frost that sits in the shadow of Mount Maka is a cold and brutal place. It is there that the massive arena of Ninhelm sits, reserved for battles with the largest monsters in the Splinterlands. Besides those who live beneath the surface, the only creatures that survive in this land have frost and ice in their blood. Through the generations of evolution, they have developed sustainable sub-zero body temperatures and immunities to frostbite. The extreme cold has also slowed the metabolism of these frost animals, so the larger beasts have been able to thrive when less food is available. Among the animals who live on the ice shelf, the great Frost Lions are king.
As you can see in the original image, it has a menacing and somewhat grumpy appearance. Since lions are related to cats, my goal with this work was to make Frost Lion appear more adorable and cat-like – because, well, cats are adorable...though not all of them.
So here are the materials that I used to create this fan art.
- Android Tablet
- Clip Studio Paint Mobile App
I began creating my fan art by drawing the line art on a white paper. Unlike my previous works, I didn't duplicate and blur another layer of line art for this one. Next, I added the flat colors, mostly shades of black and blue. To give it an icy look, I applied a bright blue color, and for the darker shades, I applied a slightly transparent black color. For the highlights, I added another layer and changed it to Add (Glow), then sprayed a light blue color. Instead of grass, I depicted icicles emerging from the ground and applied a blue hue to the background.
After studying it for a while, I found it to be too crowded with blue color, so I changed the background color to something more calming. Although I'm not exactly sure what color it is, I thought it complemented the character's blue color quite well.
Here are the step-by-step image of my fan art.
I find this version rather cute compared to the original image. Hehehe. Let me know what you think! 😄
That's it, and I hope you like this fan art. I hope to create more in the future.
Stay safe and dry everyone!
