Hey everyone! Nite morning π How are you doing? Iβm here
This is my entry for the Splinterlands weekly art contest. So yeah, I skipped last weekβs contest, but this time I really wanted to jump back in. I just felt like drawing something chill, no pressure, and ended up going with the Earth splinter..... after the Splinter of Death ππ itβs one of my faves . It feels calm, grounded, and full of life.
When I think about the Earth element, I instantly picture that natural energy...-.green tones, roots, growth, balance. I wanted to bring that feeling into my character, nothing too fantasy-like, just something that feels organic and kinda real.
β
This is the character I have taken as a reference for this week.
I actually started the piece in Corel Painter, working in grayscale just to build the shapes and values first. Once I liked the base, I moved it over to Photoshop and started adding color. Still wanted to keep things clean β not too detailed, just focusing on the atmosphere and how the tones blended together.
I usually donβt stress over perfect lines-..- I just block out shapes and the pose first. Then I began adding those earthy greens and browns that totally fit the vibe of this splinter.
The face was definitely my favorite part. I wanted a peaceful expression, not something aggressive. I always see Earth-type characters as wise and connected, not just strong. And as always, the face is a challenge and changes little by little. I usually focus on it almost at the end.
For the color palette, I used warm greens mixed with soft golden tones. Tried not to oversaturate anything,.. To apply the colour this time, use the gradient map as well as a layer with overlay.
The background stayed blurry on purpose. I only hinted at some plants and soil shapes so it wouldnβt pull focus away from the main character. Itβs more about the mood than the scenery.
When I was done, I did a few small color and contrast tweaks. I like taking short breaks before finishing so I can look at the piece with fresh eyes .... always notice tiny stuff I missed before lol.
Honestly, joining these weekly contests keeps me inspired. Itβs a nice excuse to keep practicing and trying new things without overthinking it.
Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.
Oh, and one more thing before I wrap up...
