We had been warned by the locals that it would be challenging to drill a water well. The underground in the is area of Bali is composed of several types of rocks at different levels.
We had uneven progress over a week or so and then, after reaching 26 meter deep our drill crew made no progress for a couple of days. Discouraged, they just left the site.
So now the drilling company sends us a new crew, hopefully more tenacious, with a tougher machine and harder bit-tips.
About two hours later they are ready to drill again.
New pipes for the new drill.
This is one of the new tips.
The body is made of steel and the teeth are a compound of steel and brass.
These tips are slightly wider than the previous ones so we need to restart from scratch...
... but it goes slightly faster than the first time because the previous hole guides the new bit and doesn't have to be drilled again, only the additional diameter.
A new segment is being added to the bit.
It'll take a few days to reach 26 meters again, so more later.
