Wasting time is one of my pet hates and if I find myself doing it I give myself a quick attitude adjustment and move forward in better ways; that's helped me achieve more whether that's professionally or personally. It doesn't mean I'm doing something every waking moment of my life, just that when I do something I seek to do it effectively, thoroughly and to the best of my ability.
When it's go time I'm good to go, prepared to put in the effort, energy and enthusiasm to get the best from myself and the situation.
I recently spent three hours working on a flight and preparing for the six-day work trip I was heading into. Sure, I'd prepared ahead of time, but reviewing those plans in the "isolation" of the flight, seeking areas of improvement, possible oversights in my preparation or simply committing to memory the goals and outcomes and the plans to attain them was a valid use of my time.
Don't worry, I seemed always to lift my head from the work each time the sexy flight attendant-girl walked passed - I think she was appreciative of my work ethic as she always gave me a smile. Ok, maybe she gets paid to smile, but I'm going to assume the former was the reason for it, and my devilishly-average looks as well.
Seriously though, I know many people can't or don't want to apply the sort of focus I apply and that's ok, but I guess that will deliver results commensurate to that lack of focus and mediocrity; average and mediocre efforts and results may work for others but for me it's not acceptable, I've always been this way and it feels right to reach for more.
Y'all do things your own way and that's how it's supposed to be...but I wonder how you've found your own level of focus across your professional and personal life and if you've seen results from a high level of focus and good use of time or a lack of results though a lack of focus and time-efficiency.
Feel free to comment below, I'm interested to hear about what's worked and hasn't, and the reasons either way.
