I was looking forward to it - the weekend - but also knew it could start badly.
My Rugby League team, Brisbane Broncos, won the national title last year in a come-from-behind battle against the Melbourne Storm. An amazing game and comeback, and I came into this season with high hopes and expectations of a great season ahead.
- Game One Loss: Brisbane Broncos (0) V's Pentrith Panthers (26) - What the fuck.
- Game Two Loss: Brisbane Broncos (32) Vs Paramatta Eels (40) - What the fucking fuck.
That brought me to last night's game against the Melbourne storm, a rematch of last season's Premiership title game, and I was somewhat nervous because Melbourne Storm are a powerhouse and it's been ten years since the Broncos have won against them on Melbourne's home ground.
It started badly with loads of handling mistakes by the Broncos; sure, some great defensive play also but if a team can't keep hold of the ball it's never going to end well. I settled in for another loss.
At half time the score was Storm 14 and Broncos 0...fucken zero. What the fuck.
The team went into the locker room at the break to reset and I watched the halftime coverage showing the rather sad statistics and had to turn to snacks to console myself. On their reemergence and the kick off it was like they were a different outfit. They scored within minutes which lifted them and it's like they shrugged off their former lacklustre gameplay to play like the Broncos I know and love. Fuck yeah!
- Game Three Win: Brisbane Broncos (18) V's Melbourne Storm (14) - A solid comeback win.
This is exactly what the Broncos did to the Storm in the title battle last season and once again Melbourne Storm were shellshocked. I was happy though, the first win for the season and they now sit tenth on the leaderboard out of the seventeen national teams, here's the NRL Ladder, it's not great but way better than three losses in a row and something to build on.

The image above is off my TV just after the game started and I was full of hope. Soon after, Melbourne Storm began to destroy my Broncos and that didn't bode well for my weekend but by the end of the game things had turned around and I knew I was in for a great weekend ahead on the back of the Broncos win.
