Steam appears to be experiencing an outage just ahead of Christmas, disrupting plans for many gamers hoping to play during the holiday break. According to reports from DownDetector and users on social media, the platform went down on Christmas Eve.
While games can still be launched and played, some users report slower-than-usual startup times. Other parts of the platform, however, are currently inaccessible. The Steam Store is offline, preventing players from taking advantage of the ongoing Holiday Sale, which is scheduled to run until January 5.
In addition, several pages within the Steam app—including user profiles, group pages, and other community features—are either failing to load or returning errors. Steam’s service status has fluctuated throughout the day, briefly returning to normal earlier before going down again.
Valve has not yet issued an official statement regarding the outage. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
