Walking around Prague, it is impossible to miss the monumental and grandiose building of the National Theater, built in the Neo-Renaissance style. It is the largest opera and drama theater in the Czech Republic.

It was opened on June 11, 1881 with the staging of Bedrich Smetana's opera Libusche, but to the great horror of the local public, in August of the same year the building was destroyed by a huge fire.

Народні пожертви збиралися під гаслом «Нація - собі» і ці слова до сих пір прикрашають зал для глядачів. Вже 18 листопада 1883 року Національний театр було повторно відкрито тієї ж оперою Сметани.
The Czechs are probably very fond of the theater, because they quickly raised money to restore the burned house of Melpomene. People's donations were collected under the slogan "Nation - to yourself" and these words still adorn the auditorium. As early as November 18, 1883, the National Theater was reopened by the same opera Smetana.

На північному фасаді будівлі розташовані статуї А. Вагнера «Забоя» і «Луміра», на аттику знаходяться «Аполлон і дев'ять муз» та «Богиня Перемоги» Б. Шнірха. Над бічним входом розташовані алегорії Опери і Драми.
On the northern facade of the building are statues of A. Wagner "Slaughter" and "Lumira", on the attic are "Apollo and the Nine Muses" and "Goddess of Victory" B. Schnirch. Above the side entrance are allegories of Opera and Drama.
У 1976 - 1983 роках приміщення театру було знову реконструйовано і розширено, а в 1983 році, до сторічного ювілею, було прибудовано приміщення Нової сцени.
In 1976-1983 the theater premises were reconstructed and expanded again, and in 1983, on the occasion of the centenary, the premises of the New Stage were added.
