The exhibition of Surrealist art was a hit; tens of thousands of people came to see it. Pride of place went to an installation called simply "Bananafish". The sign on the floor directly beneath it explained that the fish itself and the plinth it stood on (or rather, under) were both affixed to the ceiling with a single strip of velcro. It took Amy Smith, a girl of nine, to point out the obvious. "But if the velcro is on the side of the fish, what's sticking it to the ceiling ?" With a huge grin, the artist emerged from behind the nearby hippopotamus sculpture done in the style of M.C. Escher, stepped up behind Amy and, tapping the side of his nose, gave her a cheque for a considerable sum of money. "It's art. The whole thing is held up by the willpower of those who don't ask the obvious question".
