There was a juicy, strawberry-flavored lollipop I had been looking forward to enjoying all day. But the school bell rang before I could finish it. No way was I going to throw it away.
So, like a genius, I did what any determined child would do. I wrapped it in tissue, placed it carefully inside my backpack, and zipped it shut.
Or so I thought.
When I got home, I dropped my backpack near the front door, had lunch, watched TV, and completely forgot about my precious lollipop. It wasn’t until several hours later that I suddenly remembered.
I rushed to my backpack, unzipped the pocket, and…
What I saw could only be described as pure horror.
The lollipop was still there… but so were the ants. Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands. Okay, maybe not thousands, but it felt like thousands.
A full army of ants, eating away at my half-licked candy.
My screams fell on the ants deaf ears. Do they even have one?
That was the day I learned two very important lessons:
- Ants do not respect boundaries.
- Never, ever trust a half-eaten snack to survive in your backpack.
