Y justo paso allí, en pleno juego de futbol mi pie quedo al descubierto, mis mejillas se colorearon de inmediato, la vergüenza se apodero de mí; Pero estaba recibiendo mi castigo, por hacer caso omiso de las señales que notaba, mi zapato ya enviaba señales de que empezaban a deteriorando, y yo ignorándolas. Comenzó con una raja a un lado, no preste atención, los seguí usando, no hice ni el intento de repararlos, en esa misma semana, otra raja se veia del otro lado, yo como si nada estuviera pasando; Sentía que ya no quedaban tan ajustados como antes, pero pensaba, aún no estan deteriorados, los puedo seguir usando; Hasta este día que de un momento a otro, el zapato parecias estar bostezando, tela y la suela se separaron, dejando ver mi desnudo pie, porque para completar, me habia puesto calcetines. Intetente caminar, mejor dicho chancletear, aquel zapato que un día abrazaba con fuerza mi pie, hoy lo dejaba libre; Respire hondo y me dije a mi mismo, te lo mereces porque ya sabias que estaban empezando a deteriorarse.

That same week, another tear appeared on the other side, and I acted as if nothing were happening; I felt they weren’t as snug as before, but I thought, they aren’t worn out yet, I can keep wearing them; until this very day when, all of a sudden, the shoe seemed to yawn—the fabric and sole separated, revealing my bare foot, because to top it off, I’d put on socks. I tried to walk—or rather, shuffle—in that shoe that once hugged my foot tightly but now let it go free. I took a deep breath and told myself, “You deserve this because you already knew they were starting to fall apart.”
