At the edge of the village playground stood an old swing. It was once been the most loved spot for every child. Its wooden seat was smooth from years of use, and its ropes had carried countless laughter into the air. But one rainy season, the ropes snapped, and the swing hung crookedly from the tree branch. From that day on, everyone called it “the broken swing.”
Children stopped going near it. They played football in the field or climbed trees instead. The broken swing became lonely, forgotten under the shade of the mango tree.
One afternoon, a young girl named Ada walked to the playground. She had just moved to the village and knew nothing about the swing’s history. Seeing it hanging there, she asked the other children, “Why does no one fix it?”
“It’s useless now,” they replied.
But Ada did not agree with them. The next day, she brought strong ropes from home and asked her father to help. Together, they repaired the swing carefully. By evening, it was as good as new.
When the villagers saw it, they rushed over with excitement. Soon, the playground was filled with laughter again. The swing flew high, carrying happy faces just as it had years ago.
The broken swing taught everyone an important lesson: things that seem useless are not always beyond repair. Sometimes, all they need is care, effort, and someone who
believes in them. Same applies to people around you.
From then on, the old swing was no longer called “the broken swing.” It became known as “the swing of hope.” The children were happy again after a long time.
