In September 1933, the "Leipzig Trial" began. It is believed that it was he who brought the Nazis to power.
The reason was the arson of the Reichstag in February of the same year. The Nazis blamed five Communists for this.
When a wave of protest rose in the world, the four were acquitted by the court, but the Dutchman Marinus Van der Lubbe was sentenced to death.
Under the pretext of protecting the population from provocations, the following were officially abolished: personal freedoms, assemblies, unions, speech, press, secrecy of correspondence, inviolability of private property. The Communist Party of Germany was banned, almost 4,000 Communists were arrested, among them the deputies of the Reichstag.
At the same time, the Nazis seized power on the ground. Soon their NSDAP party and its leader Adolf Hitler gained absolute power in Germany.
In 2008, the German court overturned the sentence of the executed Van der Lubbe.
