I used to think being messy was just part of my personality and that’s how creative people live, but I thought wrong
I would joke whenever someone complained about my room but deep down, I knew the truth. My room wasn’t just messy it was out of control.

Clothes were everywhere, on the chair, on the bed even on the floor. Even hanging halfway out of my bag like they were trying to escape.

One afternoon, I walked into my room after a stressful day and just stared at the mountain of clothes sitting in the corner.

It looked almost exactly like the picture above, a giant pile of confusion. For a moment, I laughed, then I sighed.

What a mess…

But the more I looked at it, the more I realized the pile wasn’t only laundry. It was procrastination, stress and the laziness of I’ll do it tomorrow. Every piece of clothing carried one excuse after another.

The funny thing is, I always thought cleaning would take forever, so I kept avoiding it. But that day, I finally started with something simple, just with one shirt.

Then another and then another one and slowly, the pile became smaller and strangely, my mind felt clearer too.

That experience taught me something important, small problems become big problems when we ignore them for too long. Whether it’s a messy room, unfinished assignments, or emotions we refuse to deal with, things pile up when we avoid responsibility.

I also learned that motivation doesn’t usually come first, action does.

Once I started cleaning, I actually wanted to continue. Before that moment, I was waiting to feel ready, but readiness never came until I moved.

By the time I finished, my room looked better, but so did my mood. I felt proud of myself over something so simple. It reminded me that sometimes we create stress by avoiding small tasks that could actually improve our lives.

Now, whenever my room starts looking like a clothing volcano again, I catch it early. Not perfectly, of course I still have lazy days. But I’ve learned not to let the mess grow bigger than me.

Because sometimes, cleaning your room is also a way of cleaning your mind
