A bit later to post this one, had a hard time finding time and inspiration. I've never been the type of writer to be able to sit down for hours and days on end and crank out a project in one sitting. To me, the spark to write has always come in bursts. On one hand, this has made doing a daily freewrite fairly challenging. On the other, it's also helped to tame that habit somewhat, and in the coming days I look forward to participating in one of the writing contests posted by to write a longer story over the course of a week instead of having to fit every bit of writing into five minutes. Depending on how it goes, I may shift over to that instead of daily freewrites.
For now, here's today's!

It doesn't take much more than a good sunrise to turn a night owl into an early bird. In my youth, I always appreciated everything the night had to offer; the solitude, the freedom of everyone else (especially your parents) being asleep, it was hard not to love it over its opposite. Day brought groggy beginnings, hasty breakfast, and a hurried gait out the door to school or to work.
Most of my jobs were close to my home, not to far from the city. The drives there were never long, yet their shortness was overcome by the complications along the way. Tired and half-drunken drivers navigating their way home or to the next bar, barely able to operate the heavy machinery they'd been entrusted with. Not exactly a pleasant commute.
When I moved, I found myself a good drive from the city, my job even further. In the colder months, driving to work through dark woods and frosty roads, it was once even more hellish than surviving those who thought they could drive.
But as the days grew warmer, and the sunrise earlier, soon it came into view. The peaceful country roads, populated only with the occasional truck or van. The fields and forests lit by the fading moonlight being overtaken by a rising sun.
