Yes, I bought a car with a quarter of a million miles on it. Well, my 93 Honda Accord, I kept bringing to the shop and it was told maybe it is this and maybe it is that. I thought that if, when my own mechanics are having a hard time identifying what is wrong, maybe it is time to retire the vehicle.
So since I stopped using my 93 Honda Accord, I believe some time last October 2022. I stop using my 89 Nissan Sentra too as it was overheating, but I can fix that, it is just that I was saving money to buy a car. In the meantime my brother told me that I could use his car for as long as I needed. My brother letting me use his car was a real help. I recently gave back my brother's car with a full tank of gas and an oil change.
I told my brother that later on before summer, I will fix the air conditioner in his car.
So I found this car on the internet. It was on sale for $3550. It is a 2001 Lexus GS300. This is the one with the straight 6. I remember people talking about the straight 6, or what some people call, the 2JZ GE engine. I heard that Toyota over engineered this straight 6 and it is sought after, to modify. I think you can safely modify it to 700 horsepower, but stock it is 220 horsepower. I will keep it stock, I don't really want anymore horsepower, than it already has.
I couldn't get anyone to give me a ride there, so I signed up for Uber. So on Saturday of January 28, 2023 I went to a wholesale car business. I did call ahead of time and asked if the 2001 Lexus GS300 was still at their location. Once the person on the phone said it was still there, I said, thank you and hung up. Then I ordered an Uber ride to a city south of me where the car was.
My goal was if I liked the car I would buy it and drive it home, if I didn't like the car, I would order another Uber ride back home. I talked to the Uber driver all the way. I told him, that I might buy a car. So we talked about cars and how to buy a used car, then we even talked about tribunals and how some people have already gotten hanged for treason.
The Uber driver dropped me off at the place and the 2001 Lexus GS300 was upfront. The Uber driver looked at it and asked is that the Lexus that you want to buy? I told him, that was the one I wanted to buy, and from his car he said, That is a nice looking car, check it out though.
So I handed the Uber driver a $20 cash tip. My first Uber ride and I must say, that was a good ride.
So as soon as I got there I started to check out underneath the car, looking for bad rust. They said that Lexus with bad rust is something that you don't want to buy.
When I finally got to speak to someone, I told him that I was looking to test drive this 2001 Lexus GS300. He took my drivers license and photo copied it. Then he gave me the key. He told me how to get on the freeway and that he wanted me to not drive it too long.
So I got in the car and took out my GPS and hooked it up. I wanted to know how to get back to the place, since I didn't know that area.
I wanted to check out the air conditioner, but when I turned it on, it had cold air coming out of the driver side and hot air coming out of the passenger side. Of course I didn't like that.
So as I came back, I told the guy, I can't buy this car. I have to have a good air conditioner, there is cold air coming out of the driver side and hot air coming out on the passenger side, and I handed him the key, and I thought that was it.
Then he said, he could bring down the price to $3100 and with the extra savings I could have the air conditioner fixed. I thought about it for awhile and said, $3000. Then he took it. He also took me to a DMV place to switch over my name. $481 for tax and license.
So I took the car home, and washed it, then with a coupon I got myself a whopper meal at Burger King. Here is my car at the Burger King parking lot.
The thing is I started looking at a lot of Lexus GS300 videos. On one video it mentioned that you can reset the computer of the car, by unhooking the battery and turn on the headlights to use up all the energy in the system. Then on the Lexus, sometimes the car won't start after you disconnect the battery, it is their anti-theft function. So on a video, it says that if you disconnect the battery, as I want to do to reset the car's computer, after connecting the battery, I close the hood and get in the car, then I put the key in the car and turn for 2 clicks, until I see the check engine light and all the rest of the lights at two clicks, then I leave it there for 7 minutes. I used my stopwatch in my phone and after the 7 minutes I turn the key back two clicks to the off position, but I don't take out the key. Then I turn the key pass the two clicks and start the car.
Well, that did it. All of a sudden the computer was reset and I got my air conditioner to have cold air coming out of the driver side and cold air coming out of the passenger side, and I didn't have to take the car to the mechanics to fix that problem.
So I have a new used car.
Let's end with a scripture, as it is written, with Jesus speaking, I am the vine, ye the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5.
