It rained the day before so it came as a surprise that the temperature of the day after was scotching hot. Melissa set her things down at the bank of the water. The sun was shining brightly in the sky. The air was thick and humid, she could almost feel the sun's rays burn her skin as the heat was oppressive. She looked at the water, the sun casting a shimmering glow on the surface. She took off her clothes leaving only the white shirt she had stolen from her sister many years before. Slowly she placed her feet into the water, testing.
Perfect she thought.
She immersed the rest of her body, the water welcoming her easily without a fight. She lay down, her back to the surface, her eyes to the sun. The cool water felt refreshing against her skin. She closed her eyes and let the gentle waves rock her back and forth.
The feeling of the water against her body was what she would describe as surreal . She felt like she was floating on a cloud, her body weightless and her mind free. The sun's rays warmed her skin and the water lapped against her in a soothing rhythm. She felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over her.
She felt a sense of euphoria, like she was in a dream. She felt as though she was one with the water, and the world around her seemed to disappear. She was in her own little bubble, her own perfect creation and nothing else mattered.
The only sound she could hear was the lapping of the waves against her body and the occasional bird chirping in the distance. The sun was high in the sky and the breeze was gentle and calming. She felt like she could stay in this moment forever.
The feeling was so intense and powerful that it almost brought tears to her eyes. She felt so alive and connected to the world around her. She felt like she was part of something bigger, something that was beyond her understanding.
For a few blissful moments, she was completely at peace. Nothing else mattered, and she was content.
Eventually, she opened her eyes and the spell was broken. She was still in the lake, but the feeling of euphoria had faded. She sighed contentedly, feeling refreshed and blissed out.
It was unfortunate the moment couldn't last forever. The real world with all it's trouble had to return, but one thing gave her a sense of peace, contentment and assurance. She would always have her little lake to fall back to no matter what.
