My entry for Day 998
5 Minute Freewrite
Stephen came from a comfortable background so he didn't understand that he's friend who lived most of their lives in the slums had so much struggles. He admired their "die hard" attitude. He thought it fashionable the way the spoke and used certain slangs, walked funny and dressed more in a "I don't give f*ck what you think way".
It surprised him how ladies flocked around the seemingly bad boys whose background check revealed nothing of repute.
Why are women so drawn to danger.
He found himself asking Allison. Allison was a proper street girl whose name was Adebimpe as christened by her biological parents. Born and bred in the streets of Ajegunle, Lagos state she changed her name to suit her trade. She had seen men stabbed and bodies mutilated more times than once. The sight of blood and the flowing rivers makes no difference to her, the were all liquid love.
The same reason why you are always in my face like a recently orphaned kitten.
She was beautiful and she knew this. Happy to flaunt her fairness, she had taken it to be a craft to squeeze out money from any man willing to pay for her services.
Stephen knew about her trade but still bent in having Allison. She revealed the nature of her job to Stephen with hopes he'd let her be but somehow it only endeared her to him even more.
I know you love me too.
Deep down in your heart you want to stop all of this but i don't know what could be holding us from flying into the moon together?
Firstly, because you deserve better. Secondly, your mother would murder you. Finally, you have lived the good life and now used to it. You wouldn't survive a day on the streets with me when your father cuts you off because we both know he would.
Listen Al it doesn't matter as long as I'm with you, I'll be happy.
That's just rich boys talk, you have so much now you don't know its value and so quick to want to throw it away.
It's you who doesn't know your value. I wish you could mirror yourself through my eyes
Steve, you'll be frustrated.
Without you I would be frustrated. I am frustrated right now.
There was a loud pause.
Allison pick herself from couch in the lounge and bade the club house goodnight, leaving Stephen teary eyed. It is true that she loved him too but she couldn't bear to leave with a man who'd be full of regrets and she constantly looking over her shoulders for a vengeful father or mother who would forever cast accusing fingers to her for ruining their son's life.
Besides, she found it stupid of him to say he'd throw away his inheritance for a woman, the same. wealth she trades her body every night for.
She had mixed feelings, on one part she was mad at the universe how it unevenly distributed privileges. How she would have lived to be in Stephen's shoes right now, same shoes he didn't value.
And on the hand, she felt sorry for him. She realised she was the one thing he couldn't buy with money yet wanted so dearly.
Index the universe has been unfair with its sharing formula.
