All my life I wanted to be at a place and nobody would know that I was there. I wanted to be on my own always and nobody would talk to me or disturb me. I wanted to be untouchable. I wanted to be secluded from the world.
I Wanted To Be INVISIBLE
Being the last born in a family of 7 was quite a mess. I had to run errands for all my 6 siblings. From morning till night.
"Linda Get The Door"
"Linda go make breakfast"
"Linda have you swept the house"
"Linda there's no water in the storage"
"Linda my car is dirty"
"Linda polish my shoes"
I never have time for myself. The errands just keep coming.
Then I go to school hoping to escape the madness at home, but my school wasn't helping matters.I had no friend in school. Anybody I pass always makes hateful comment towards me.
"Look how dirty she is looking"
"She never irons her cloth"
"You can never see A nice hairstyle on this one."
"Always looking skinny like A house maid."
This made me hardly go for classes, I found solace under a mango tree, where I stay all alone humming to some #Music
One day I decided to stand up to one of my siblings.
"Linda I want you to go to the market buy..."
"Big sis I'm tired I've been working all day, I need to rest could you find someone else to help you with it?"
"Linda What Did you say?"
"I said I was..."
I couldn't complete the statement before a hot slap landed on my cheek. I felt stars come out of my eyes.
"Linda you have grown wings in this house right, I'll send you errand and you are giving me excuses"
I wept bitterly.
"Now take this list and before I count three you better be back with everything on that list"
I headed to the market walking slowly with head bowed and crying all the way.
Just then an idea popped into my head.
"They are always mean to me. Perhaps it's time I paid them back in their own coin."
I derailed from the market, and went to explore the streets. The plan was to waste a little time playing around then go to the market late and end up ruining her plans.
That was when I discovered a circus center. This was the best thing that happened to me. I've never had so much fun in my life. I was so carried away that I didn't realize it was so late. I ran to the market, but the market was closed. I went back home trying to cook up the best excuse.
As I got home I saw all my siblings standing with flaming anger in their eyes.
"Where are you coming from?"
"You have started keeping late night"
"At this age you are not scared right"
"She probably has a boyfriend"
"Where are the things I asked you to buy?"
"Instead of doing what you are told you prefer to be stubborn."
I never got a chance to use the beautiful excuse I cooked up. I got the beating of my life that night and there was no one to come to my rescue.
The next day I planned to leave the house for good, but I had no idea where I would head to. I picked my tiny bag, packed a few of my things and stormed out claiming to be headed for school.
I decided to branch to the circus to have a little fun before departing. Then I saw a fortuneteller tent. I never believed in all this, but I still went in just for the fun of it.
"Good morning Ma'am"
"Hmmmm young girl. I sense a strong will in you."
"And you can sense that from my greeting or from the fact that I came here without my parents or an older person"
I murmured to myself
"Have you come to know your future."
"Most definitely"
"OK drop your 5$ into the basket"
"I don't have $5. In fact I don't have Any money at all"
"What is this, do you think this is a charity. Didn't you read the sign outside."
I definitely saw the sign that read NO $5, NO ENTRY
"No Ma'am I didn't see the sign"
"Well for the fact that you have entered here already, I can't tell your future but I could grant you a wish for free"
I almost laughed
"OK ma'am I'd give anything to be invisible"
"Be careful what you wish for child"
"Will you grant the wish or not?"
"Your wish is granted."
"I don't feel anything."
"Go on now, child"
I headed to the train station to purchase a ticket out of town.
"Good morning sir please I need a ticket out of town"
No reply
Was I too little to purchase a ticket. I approached a lady standing near by.
"Kind Ma! Please could you help me purchase a ticket, for some reasons they won't sell to me"
No reply
Then it dawned on me. I was invisible!!. I screamed, nobody looked my way. I talked to several people with no reply.
I noticed that the train was about to leave, I got on the train without anyone noticing.
"This was the best feeling"
I said to myself.
The first few days were awesome, I did what I wanted, ate what I wanted entered anywhere without having to pay or restricted because I was so little.
One day while taking a walk through a lonely path, I realized that being invisible can get quite lonely. I dropped my bag and sat on the grass.
There I sat, invisible to my family. Invisible to my bullies. Invisible to the world.
