MY BEST FRIEND: THE LEGENDARY LIAR

I woke to the chirping sound of the birds on the tree close to my window. I was so delighted with the sweet smell of spring that welcomed me to the new day when I noticed my roommate, who is my best friend, was up and already in the bathroom. I called out to her, "Ruby! Are you set for our weekend getaway?!". No response, except for the whooshing sound made from brushing her teeth.

So I stood up and walked towards the bathroom when I heard her voice in my head saying, 'blah blah blah, who does she think she is asking me if am set for the getaway?. Queen mother nyeheheh'.

I froze and was astonished by what I heard. Why would Ruby say a thing like that to me? Then she came out and looked at me with a slight smile on her face and said, "Hey BFF, I thought you were still asleep because I was about to come wake you up for our trip, woohoo".

Then she flung her fists in the air to demonstrate her joy, whereas I heard her voice in me heard in my head again saying, 'on what world would I be happy to go on a getaway trip with you, I prefer to go for a marathon race Instead and wear out my lungs nyeheheh'.

So I asked her, "why do you prefer to go for a marathon race instead of the getaway trip with me?". Her expression quickly was surprising, and then she quickly smiled and replied, "I didn't say such a thing Derby" so the quietness between us was irking and wired.

I walked to the kitchen, "let me prepare breakfast while you park our bag, right?". She replied , "of course that would be a great idea. Let me get it to then". She was on her way to our bedroom when I heard her voice in my head yet again saying, 'park a bag, hehe don't worry I will pack a bag for you queen mother'.

I was confused, shocked, as to why I am hearing Ruby's inner thoughts. I am a human lie detector now or what? She has been lying to me all these years since we were kids. Why? I was asking myself, I thought we were best friends. What else has she lied to me about? I heaved a sign and thought within myself, "I guess we will find out. This getaway trip is going to be fun."

Ruby and I were all set for our trip. We both secured our locks to our apartment and walked to the building's garage downstairs. When I asked her, "hey Ruby, did you remember when I was searching for our family heirloom 6years ago, do you know I still wonder how it got missing and my family kicked me out for it?"

Deby replied, "yeah I remembered, I was not happy, your family kicked you out for it, but look at you now you doing so well without them, right?"

I responded, "em I think so?" and behold I heard her voice in my head again saying, 'nyahaha, you got knocked over by me! hehe. I guess you will never know I sold your family's heirloom and spent the money at the casino ehehe, such fun that day eh?'

I stopped abruptly and said, "WAIT, WHAT?! You sold my family's heirloom?! Ruby, how could I have done that to me?" She froze and turned slowly towards me and said: "what are you talking about?"

I got enraged, put our belongings I was carrying on the floor and went for the neck. "you irking bitch! You destroyed my life, how dare you?!" We both fell down hard on the floor struggling when I heard our building's security men running towards us.
