At first sight, I thought it was an expression, although I would not have known if it were, but taking a closer look it becomes more literal. But really, it should be adopted as an expression, with a nice meaning to it.
Ofcourse after every killing, the killer would have to do a nice sweep. The clearing out of the killed and the background it was committed, a clean sweep.
In the movies, they show this often. They even indicate that there are companies that specializes in the sweeping of a killing scene. I would not know if it happens in real life, because I've never heard of it and I've never killed anyone before, so I do not have a need for it.
