Like people often say, prom is a bit of a window into how young people learn to be adults. More like a right passage that teaches soon to be adults a little more than how to dance dirty and spend their parent's money.
Well, it was back in 2017 when I attended my first prom. It was the end of senior year(my last year in high school) when my school announced the date for prom.
Everyone looked excited about it and there was a lot of madness about it. Every corner was seen with cliques talking about prom; uncertain of who would be prom king or queen, and which girl would be asked to prom by the most handsome guy in our grade. But there was me, the nerdy shy girl who was barely noticed by anyone except for having bulgy eyes.
With that, I was uninterested in going to prom but there was fancy Lucy the blabbermouth who had to tell my mom that prom was close
I was finally persuaded into attending the year's prom but I didn't have a partner, a prom date, boyfriend or whatever but my mom shocked me. She had gotten a blue velvet dress for me long before prom date was fixed. Oh, it was so beautiful. That alone made me feel like I needed to attend the prom.
So I and Lucy got there together although in no time, George had come to fetch his girl and I was alone, watching others dance and drink.
I would have said that the only special thing about the year's prom was the dress my mom got for me and the idea of leaving high school but well, we know how it ends. Zayn who was the most handsome and popular guy in school asked me for a dance. Still in shock, he said he had never seen anyone that pretty and he loved my bulgy blue eyes even when others laughed at them.
I felt out of this world and back. I was being noticed and even admired by someone whom everyone drools over. It was really a wonderful experience and since then I've made cool friends and learnt to come out of my shell.
