Amber wasn't sure why she was here.
The man, sitting in front of her talking about himself with a self-confidence that wasn't justified, was not her type at all.
Why had she agreed to meeting him?
"He's a nice guy," Jill had told her. "I think you'll get on well."
Now, smiling blankly at Bob, as he told her yet another boring story about how he was so valued at work, she wondered about her friendship with Jill.
How could Jill think that Amber would have any interest in this man?
Didn't that mean that she really didn't understand Amber.
She nodded as she realised Bob had asked her a question she hadn't heard and made a noise that might have been a yes, might have been a no. He looked confused. She coughed and pulled her phone from her bag.
"Excuse me," she said. "I need to make a phone call. I need to check in with the baby sitter."
