Freewrite writing prompt " I can't relate"
Day after day, Emma browsed on social networks and found images of people smiling, going on fancy trips and having flawless lives. Many students in the class related stories about spending their weekends and dinners in style. She kept quiet, occasionally nodding when the friends got excited and began talking excitedly.
“I can't relate,” she said silently as she noticed her old shoes near the table in the cafeteria. Most of her free time during the weekend was used for work, chores and helping her younger sibling.
The students were asked by their teacher to describe when they felt strong. Emma was silent for a minute before sharing everything she felt. When she started reading, all the noise stopped in the room. Even though her story was not exciting, it was true.
Then, her classmates moved closer, being careful not to disturb her and spoke to her in a respectful way. She finally felt recognized by the author. Most of all, she was accepted by everyone in the village.
