Implications
Dru walked into the house and tossed the mail on the kitchen counter then he placed both hands on the counter and stood breathing deeply holding himself up as the thoughts and memories bombarded his mind. Mardan was ringing so loudly and he knew that he didn’t want to know more but he needed to. The missing part of his life was there and he could feel it calling in a way, trying to give him enough clues to follow. The image of the transfers house stuck out vividly and he couldn’t shake it from his view.
The sound of his phone ringing roused him enough to walk to the living room and retrieve the phone from the chair. He saw that it was Ashir calling and after a breath he answered it with, “what’s up?”
“Hey, I got it going,” Ashir replied.
“What?” Dru asked not remembering what Ashir had been working on.
“I got the script written and gave it a test, it seems to work pretty good. I think we can deploy it and let it work for a while. I’m hoping the OSI servers can chew through this nice and fast,” Ashir explained.
“Really? That’s awesome. What do you have it working on?” Dru asked.
“I used the list and then set it to pull every record it finds in a deep crawl and copy each to a separate folder on the storage server. I’ll send you the link for the server so you can login and see the progress. I’m going to set it up soon and hopefully OSI doesn’t get too butt hurt about the processor usage.”
“Franklin made it sound like it was no problem so I say just go for it. The data is on a separate server so they can’t kill it right?” Dru asked.
“Totally, we have the data as it is aggregated and they have no access to it. I’m thinking it would be good to let it run for a while and let the data collect so you aren’t tempted to use any of it preemptively. If this thing runs its course then there will so much evidence on each person that they can’t not be thrown in jail,” Ashir said excitedly.
“I’m on board, I don’t want to blow this up before we get enough data to really get them all. We have to keep this quiet and no one can know. Once we get the data we can make a site like Wikileaks,” Dru said.
“That’s dangerous ground you’re talking about,” Ashir said. “You know what has happened with them, I don’t think you want to be a fugitive running from the law. Extradition doesn’t sound fun and notorious might not be how you want to be remembered,” Ashir said.
“I know what they did but I think it could be done better and with the amount of data and amount of pure dark and dirty shit that we could prove these assholes have done? I think this is more than worth the effort and the risk,” Dru said as convincingly as he could.
“Well we can worry about that later, I need to get the thing running on the servers and then we can talk once there are some results. I’ll send you the info to login when I get it done,” Ashir said.
“Okay, I’ll wait for your message then give it a bit of time to see if there are results. I’m just really curious how this will work out. I’ll talk to you later,” Dru said then ended the call and put the phone in his pocket.
He walked back to the living room and plopped down in the chair, automatically he picked up the keyboard and opened the next link in the list. There were so many he needed to get through and his mind knew he had to keep digging, the answers were in the results, the answers to the missing part of his memory, missing part of his life.
The link opened to a page that was a single memo to him that simply said, “Abort. Move to C house.”
He read it multiple times trying to force it to dredge out a memory but nothing bit. He kept dangling the line in the water but each time it came back empty. He made a note of it and then went back to the results. Something in the progression of the results was intriguing him and he suddenly looked closely at the dates and realized that they were in chronological order. It made sense suddenly and he felt a bit dumb for not seeing it to begin with.
The first batch of the results had all been his payroll entries through when he left OSI then it shifted into his record from the time he started. It appeared as though it would continue in that fashion and he felt a welling sense of relief knowing that it made his life easier as he progressed through the results.
