Dru looked around the dining room at the other tables and the people sitting at each then back to Vivian and asked, “what do you say we get out of here?”
She nodded in agreement and they soon were walking out of the cafe. As they got to the front door a busboy came running to them and held out a purse to Vivian saying, “ma’am you forgot this.”
Vivian looked down at the purse in his hand and said, “that’s not mine. I don’t carry a purse.” She tapped her right hip to indicate where she kept her things.
The busboy dropped his arm and sighed then a he turned around said, “sorry about that.” He walked away towards the kitchen and they both turned and left the cafe.
“I hadn’t noticed that you don’t have a purse. You could have walked off with that if you wanted,” Dru said as they walked to her car.
“What do I need with someone else’s problems? Probably shit credit and low limits on the cards so I wouldn’t get far with them,” she said flatly.
Dru eyed her as they reached the car and he was opening his door he said over the roof, “sounds like you’ve thought about it before. It’s all good cuz I have too.”
They both climbed into the car and closed the doors. Vivian started the car then turned to Dru and said, “we all think about a lot of things that common thought is we shouldn’t. But if it’s just thoughts then it is no harm no foul. This isn’t a precog world, yet.”
Dru chuckled at the reference then said, “if our thoughts were readable the bulk of humanity would be in serious shit. Just what goes on in my head alone is bad enough, I can’t imagine the dark depths that others get to. I know I couldn’t bear any more than what I am dealing with myself.”
Vivian smiled knowingly and then backed the car out of the parking spot and pulled out onto the street, heading back towards Dru’s house. They sat in silence for a minute or two before she asked, “so, I’m curious what you do with your time during the day? You don’t work so how do you keep yourself busy?”
Dru sat and stared at the road whooshing under the car and he tried to think of what his normal day was and he was coming up blank. He glanced at her and saw she was still focused on the road and he felt a moment of relief before her prodding question of, “well?” came.
After more of a pause he replied, “honestly, not much. My days have run together the past years since I have been out and much of it has been spent on the couch. That’s one of the things I am still amazed by, how could they spend that long ransacking my place? There isn’t that much shit in it to begin with. They should have been out in 10 minutes, tops.”
