The Enemy Within
My greatest enemy was not the hostile environment where I was born.
It was not the unpredictable climate or the wild animals which could end any life for no particular reason other than chance, self-defense, or instinctive impulses.
My greatest enemy was not the backwardness that surrounded me either; the isolation and parochialism that would put me behind my competitors.
It was not even the actual enemies I made inadvertently just by expressing my desire of a better, fairer world.
My greatest enemy was not the treacherous diseases that stowed away in my gene pool.
My greatest enemy was not outside my body; it was in my mind.
I defeated myself at every battle. It was me who ruined every possible victory.
