Life, just like every hard-earned penny they make, will pass before their eyes in a jiffy.
The New Normal
After an exhausting month, working three jobs, anyone might think that a Venezuelan professional would glad and ready for the Easter Break (Spring break in some lattitudes). S/He's bone tired, but their partners and/or children are anxiously waiting for the weekend while they make plans that include the beach, the mall, and anything in between.
They make their shopping list, which includes anything from razors to bathing suits and drinks, and they also make a list of friends and relatives they have not seen in a while and who they'd like to invite over and/or visit.
Additionally, they make a list of "special foods" they have not eaten in months, such as pizza, ice cream, and deli products.
In the meantime, the Venezuelan professional panicks at the prospects of cutting off working hours, especially after the first shopping outting burns 75% of that amazingly productive but also draining month. The break has not even started and the numbers do not add up.
For these professionals, to produce a smily face that will last a week and ignore all the adjustments to make it to the end of the month will be harder than producing a good and yet useless amount of money. People expect them to "enjoy" life because, after all, you do not take anything when you die. The problem is that in order for this generation of professionals to "enjoy" anything, they have to work so hard, life, just like every hard-earned penny they make, will pass before their eyes in a jiffy.
