The Unlucky Encounter - ZAPFIC50 FRIDAY (12/19/25) | Prompt: blank

What a chuckle I got from Hive account@felt.buzz's challenge post last Friday. The prompt was left blank. At first I thought it a mistake. But what a way to let the Freewriters' imaginations run wild. Don't free newcomers. Us "old timer" Freewriters remember Hive account@mariannewest's 1000 prompts post several years ago. It sustained me for many years and brought forth numerous stories. Thanks Hive account@felt.buzz for the reminder that our Community has provided excellent resources at our fingertips. Now let me go find that post!

For the ZAPFIC50 Friday challenge this week, I played with the "blank" prompt to create a flash fiction story involving the word. Numerous times I've drawn a blank trying to remember an event. It just boggles my mind that I truly can't remember. And it's from merely understanding that things happens from time time such as that. I don't get upset by it, but jut go with the flow.

My story is below:

Daniel scratched his head, bewildered by the woman's accusation.

Don't you remember? she hissed.

But he didn't. And drew a blank attempting to recall that weekend.

Silence.

"You're a liar trying to shirk your responsibility."

He didn't want to admit that inebriation played a part.

First step. Alcoholics Anonymous program.

Qué risa me dio el desafío publicado por Hive account@felt.buzz el viernes pasado. La consigna estaba en blanco. Al principio pensé que era un error. Pero qué manera tan genial de dejar volar la imaginación de los escritores libres. No liberéis a los recién llegados. Los escritores libres «veteranos» recordamos la publicación de Hive account@mariannewest con 1000 consignas de hace varios años. Me sirvió de inspiración durante muchos años y me ayudó a crear numerosas historias. Para el desafío del viernes de ZAPFIC50 de esta semana, jugué con la sugerencia «en blanco» para crear una historia de ficción breve que incluyera la palabra. Muchas veces me he quedado en blanco tratando de recordar un evento. Me sorprende mucho que realmente no pueda recordar. Y es simplemente por comprender que cosas como esas suceden de vez en cuando. No me molesta, simplemente sigo la corriente.

A continuación mi historia.

El encuentro desafortunado

Daniel se rascó la cabeza, desconcertado por la acusación de la mujer.

¿No te acuerdas?, le espetó ella.

Pero él no se acordaba. Intentó recordar aquel fin de semana, pero no le vino nada a la mente.

Silencio.

«Eres un mentiroso que intenta eludir su responsabilidad».

No quería admitir que la embriaguez había influido.

Primer paso. Programa de Alcohólicos Anónimos.
