Mi relato lo titulé: El arroz caldoso de mariscos llega con frío del ártico
La Señora Carmen Solórzano es una experta cocinera. Nació en España pero se vino después, de la guerra civil española, para Venezuela. Iba a "hacer la América", como le decían, en su país natal, a los que emigraban en busca de mejoras económicas.
Ella se las arreglaba para preparar cualquier platillo con los ingredientes que tuviese en la nevera. Hacía más de dos años que había enviudado. Siempre recordaba a su querido Pepe. Nunca superó su inesperada partida.....
Ella, entusiasta de las materias esotéricas, siempre había querido comunicarse con su esposo fallecido. Había ido a esos sitios......pero no encontraba nada. La última vez una vidente le dijo:
-Señora Carmen, quédese tranquila. Su esposo se comunicará cuando menos usted se lo imagine-
Ese viernes por la tarde, en víspera de la celebración de la Virgen del Pilar, Carmen fue nuevamente a "consulta"....... La vidente Ismenia decidió hacer una excepción y le regaló "la consulta" a Carmen. Ismenia le enfatizó que, en una fiesta que se celebraría próximamente en familia, Pepe se comunicaría con ella. Carmen, al oír eso, se fue más tranquila y esperanzada. Era la mejor vidente de Ciudad Azucena, donde ambas residían.
Ese fin de semana, Carmen, se reuniría toda la familia, para celebrar el 12 de octubre, fiesta nacional de su país.
Había pensado preparar varios platillos, unos fáciles, otros más complicados.
Ya tenía todos los ingredientes. Inclusive preparó con antelación la mermelada de fresas, la tortilla española de papas y las panquecas. La tortilla, la mermelada y las panquecas las sacaría, muy temprano, de la nevera.
Llegó el sábado, día de la celebración. Carmen se levantó muy temprano. Comenzó con la empanada gallega, que era lo más rápido para ella. Luego seguiría un arroz caldoso de mariscos, ese que tanto le gustaba a Pepe. Y como postre decidió rellenar las panquecas con chocolate amargo y mermelada de fresas. Estos postres eran el deleite de grandes y chicos.
La empanada la colocó en el horno, mientras prepararía el arroz caldoso.
Comenzó la preparación acordándose de su esposo....tarareando una canción que a él le gustaba......
Estaba totalmente concentrada, cuando de repente siente un frío intenso, helado.
Carmen piensa es un frío inusual, parece un frío del ártico......Y en eso escucha su nombre:
Caaaarmen Caaarmen.
Era su esposo llamándola......

My story I titled it: The seafood rice broth arrives with arctic cold.
Mrs. Carmen Solórzano is an expert cook. She was born in Spain but came to Venezuela after the Spanish Civil War. She went to "hacer la América", as they used to say, in her native country, to those who emigrated in search of economic improvement.
She managed to prepare any dish with the ingredients she had in the fridge. It had been more than two years since she had been widowed. She always remembered her beloved Pepe. She never got over his unexpected departure.....
She, an enthusiast of esoteric matters, had always wanted to communicate with her deceased husband. She had gone to these sites......but found nothing. The last time a psychic told her:
-Madam Carmen, rest assured. Your husband will communicate when you least expect it.
That Friday afternoon, on the eve of the celebration of the Virgin of Pilar, Carmen went again for "consultation" ........ The psychic Ismenia decided to make an exception and gave Carmen the "consultation" as a gift. Ismenia emphasized that Pepe would communicate with her at an upcoming family party. Carmen, upon hearing this, left more calm and hopeful. She was the best psychic in Ciudad Azucena, where they both lived.
That weekend, Carmen would gather the whole family to celebrate October 12, the national holiday of her country.
She had planned to prepare several dishes, some easy, others more complicated.
She already had all the ingredients. She even prepared the strawberry jam, the Spanish potato omelet and the pancakes in advance. The omelet, the jam and the pancakes would be taken out of the refrigerator very early in the morning.
Saturday arrived, the day of the celebration. Carmen got up very early. She started with the Galician empanada, which was the quickest for her. Then followed a seafood rice dish, the one that Pepe liked so much. And for dessert she decided to fill the pancakes with bitter chocolate and strawberry jam. These desserts were the delight of young and old alike.
He put the empanada in the oven while he prepared the rice with broth.
She started the preparation remembering her husband ...... singing a song that he liked.
She was totally concentrated, when suddenly she felt an intense, icy cold.
Carmen thinks it is an unusual cold, it feels like an arctic cold......And then she hears her name:
Caaaarmen Caaarmen Caaarmen.
It was her husband calling her......
