Nepal Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Tuesday confirmed that there are three variants of corona virus in Nepal. B.1.617.1, the second variant, which was seen in UK during last year December, was already seen in Nepal before India was affected severely by its second wave. The third variant is nothing new. Its just the variant B.1.617.2, which is seen in India currently. Nepal was waiting for official confirmation of the presence of this variant after it sends it sends its samples from around 35 districts of Nepal. First variant was the one that originated from Wuhan. So, it makes the presence of three variants in Nepal.
The variant from India is what has been affecting Nepal badly bringing down its health infrastructure to worst condition. There is shortage of ICUs bed, oxygen cylinders and isolation centers. Even regular patients like who have kidney problems and need to do dialysis, hearth patients are not able to get major treatment. I think if people are not abiding by precautions against virus, there may be a chance that two variants can cross infect each other and change their gene and form new variant again. Which in fact can be more dangerous than the original one. Let me know your view about this cross infection.
As Nepal is currently affected by second wave, it has been assumed that third wave may start soon here, where child will be at more risk. Not sure on what government plans are there to control it before third wave begins. Daily cases are averaging around 8200 with around 200 average deaths per day. Its the highest death per capita in the whole world considering Nepal has just around 29 million population.
