Greetings Readers
I hope your week is going well! I have had a busy start to my week, as I am designing a book outline for a client that requires so much research because of the conflicting information that's available in books and online.
Not much to report otherwise. The mice are doing well, and so is the little rat, I will be doing an update with pictures of them soon. However, until that happens, here is the next update on Fell Dragon. Let's see if Saita has managed to pull through or not.
I’m fine. Just tired.” Said Jethron as he was helped up from the floor by Bolx. “I didn’t expect it to be so difficult.”
Bolx took the Dekai to a waiting bed and helped him sit down before the winged creature suddenly vomited. The Saith deftly dodged yet managed to prevent the Dekai from pitching forward in a feint again. He made sure to lay Jethron in a recovery position just in case he vomited in his unconsciousness again. He turned back to where Saita was lying. The doctors were frantically working on closing the bleeding wound in her chest where Jethron had implanted the new metal piece along with part of a blackened knife point. He had smelt the burning of metal as the two pieces were added to the contraption in Saita’s chest. Then Jethron started to lose colour. The Saith heard the Dekai groan behind him, and he was prepared to dodge another stream of vomit, but instead, Jethron opened his eyes.
“Don’t get up again.” Warned Bolx. “You keep fainting.”
“It’ll pass. Is she still alive?”
The urgency in his voice made him step closer to where the doctors were working on the human. All restraints were removed now, and the ventilator had been replaced, Saita was after all still badly wounded.
“They are pushing the painkillers and muscle relaxants, but her heart rate and blood pressure are very high.” Said Sash as she stepped back. “I’m stepping away to let them continue. I need a minute.”
She then came to look over Jethron, even though her knowledge of Dekai anatomy was rudimentary. Once he was able to sit up without any aid, was she happy with his condition.
“I need something to drink.” He said as he rubbed at his right hand. “And she will need to remain asleep for some time. No excuses; don’t let anyone try to wake her for at least a week. Her temperature is going to drop, and she will need extra blankets…”
“Jethron. I am a doctor; I know what to do.” Said Sash gently. “Let me see your cut.”
“It’s not deep. Just enough to make blood mingle.”
“I hope that won’t affect her too badly. She is human, after all.”
“We both need rest.”
For days Pura had been in communication with those of his council. The arrangements had been made and an announcement had been broadcast. Saita was once more aligned with the royal throne and was allowed to return home. What he hadn’t done was tell anyone, especially Karesh, of the severity of his daughter’s condition. He had pushed for this, not taking any negative answers from his council. If Saita’s condition was such that she was going to die, he was going to at least give Myla an opportunity to say goodbye to her. He knew that Doran had disobeyed his decree, but after everything, he was just going to ignore that. He had fought bravely with the Saith and seemed to have been granted access to Saita with or without Pura’s permission.
Myla barely ate, spoke, or slept during this time. There were even times that tears silently streamed down her face while she stared at the hospital room door for some news. Once the Saith had been pleased that Pura wasn’t severely injured, they had granted him permission to leave but due to Myla’s severe shock, they preferred to keep her on until there was improvement. Pura had not left her side. He was not going to let his uncle’s wife come to any more harm.
A week must have passed with no news on the girl while the Saith continue to pull Doran and Pura into meetings about the creatures that had attacked them, but it was very clear early on that the humans were equally distracted, and Saasha had deemed the meetings useless until such time that dust had settled. She looked like she had barely gotten any rest. She was clearly worried about her brother and grandson. Larden was able to put on a braver face than his mother and issued orders as if nothing had happened. He was a great soldier. However, Pura had seen him comforting his mother in the hallway of the castle one day. Though at this point they both looked very concerned, and he wasn’t sure who was comforting who. He took a deep breath and decided to interrupt them.
“How is Captain Bahn?” he queried.
“He’ll live. He’s in pain and wants to be transferred immediately back to the other planet so that he can have his sons and daughter close. We are just waiting for the doctors to give the go-ahead and for Miska to finish her exams. I don’t know how she is able to be so strong after losing her mother and now nearly her father.” Said Larden.
“She has your father’s strength.” Said Saasha as she squeezed Larden’s shoulder. “Please take the time to go sit with your son. Mertz can handle some of the load for you.”
“Then you need to go to Jethron.”
“I have other duties, as you can see.” Saasha indicated to Pura.
“No duties here Your Majesty. I was just reaching out.”
“You are worried about Saita.” Said Larden.
“I never dreamed that… I just wanted her to be happy.” He said after some time. “I thought she would be happy coming home, but I see now that there is too much unresolved in her for her to ever really be happy.”
“My offer stands Pura. Let us take care of her for one year.” Said Saasha. “If she wishes it.”
“If she lives.”
“Mom, let them see her.” Said Larden.
“We have laws that we must abide by.” Said Pura. “Laws that I must abide by. I can turn a blind eye to what Doran has done, but myself and Myla cannot. We are public figures, and as much as I want to tear every hospital room apart to find her and tell her how sorry I am I can’t do that. Now that she has been accepted back, I will let Myla see to her first.”
“Then you will likely want the letter back. Saita never read it, and Danna almost washed it with her dirty clothes.” Chuckled Larden.
“She never read the letter?”
“I think she was too scared of what it may contain.” Said Saasha. “If you are entitled to go see the girl then I suggest you do so but only if Jethron says you can. She is still recovering from what needed to be done.”
“I cannot thank you enough for sheltering her and making sure that…”
“You would have done the same to me and my ilk Pura, or at least I hope you are the kind of man that would have done the same. Go see the girl so that we can finally discuss what happened and move to protect those that need protecting. And people will need to be protected. We must discuss our alliance.”
With Saita still breathing, kinda, would she want to return to the humans, or would she rather find comfort in remaining with the warrior race? I guess we'll have to wait until she wakes up to see what she decides.
For those of you who have never heard of Fell Dragon you can find Book 1 here, Book 2 here and the start of Book 3 here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I love discussing my books!
As the series continues, it will combine with another book series I wrote. To avoid confusion about what is happening, introductory chapters will be introduced separately so that you don't have to be lost. However, these chapters will contain spoilers. You can find these chapters here:
