Greetings readers
I hope all of you have had an amazing week! I am still waiting for the massive book to pay out, it's been over five weeks now. I don't think I will be working with this client again, it's not fun to sit and wait for a paycheck you're not sure when you're going to get.
But anyway, the other book is going well. I am enjoying a gardening book once again, which is good because my garden is coming alive with few plants popping up. I already have some tomatoes.
Cupcake is still doing well, though her arthritis is really making her suffer. As soon as it gets a little warmer, we'll try some hydrotherapy to help her back and legs to keep her stronger for longer. She does, however, love the morning cuddles she gets from me.
Now that the update is out of the way, it's time to reveal the true creators of the Fell Dragon. I wonder how many of you may have guessed this.
Saita didn’t have much time to talk to Anka as Aife took the woman by the elbow and led her to the room where they would be continuing the discussion. All she wanted to do was talk to her, but it would seem that it would have to wait.
“Are you not concerned about unknown pathogens being introduced to your planet?” Doran asked Jethron.
“Dekai ships are equipped with sensors which would have detected and eradicated any possible pathogens.” Said the king as he waved off a soldier who seemed upset with the casual manner the human was addressing his king.
“That is technology worth sharing.”
“If it were technology, I would gladly share it with you. Sadly it is a little more complex than that.”
“Keep your secrets then Dekai.” Laughed Doran.
While the two men started aimlessly chatting as they walked, Saita marvelled at the architecture of the buildings around her. They were so familiar, yet so alien to her.
“It reminds you of your past, yes?” asked one of the elders who walked to her left.
“It must still be buried in her mind. She was shown off.” Said another to her right.
Jethron must have heard this because he turned his head to catch the rest of the conversation.
“Do you remember?”
“Do you see their faces?”
Unsure of what to say, Saita could only ignore the old wingless Dekai and tried to catch up with Doran.
“Sickly. Injured. Likely because the system isn’t complete.”
The colour drained from Saita’s face as she turned to face the one who spoke behind her. It was an old, wrinkled woman, shorter than her. Saita couldn’t see her face, but she could see the long, plaited hair that was wrapped around her throat a few times. A long index finger tipped with a long nail pointed to her and the Dekai continued, “You are incomplete, it burns to see you.”
“Elder.” Came Aife’s voice from the front. “This isn’t the place nor the time to talk about this. There are ears that shouldn’t hear what you are to tell.”
“She is no good. Just fodder. A failure. I warned him, I told him more needed to be done, but…”
“Enough!” Bellowed Anka, surprising everyone.
The elder pulled her finger back and Saita heard a chuckle from inside the hood, “Little one, your death will be painful, you will die long before your body succumbs to the pain of your injuries. What will you decide to do? Follow the Winged Serpent and become like it or end it all. I am curious to see what you will do.”
The elder’s outburst had startled Saita, enough to frighten her, but she fought down the terror and said, “I don’t know what I will do until I face the Fell Dragon.”
It was the elder’s turn to be taken aback, but then she started laughing. Soon the laugh changed to a cackle. Anka tried to reach out to Saita, but Aife held onto her firmly.
“Esteemed elder,” started Jethron slowly as he turned, “Say what is on your mind.”
“The group could almost hear the woman sneer as she said, “Lord, you have bound yourself to a mistake. She will die and we will follow screaming.”
“Enough! She is not a mistake, incomplete perhaps, but not a mistake.” Yelled Anka.
“Incomplete, mistake, what is the difference? She isn’t what she must be, and until she is, she is of no use to anyone.”
“Seems there is more than meets the eye.” Jethron turned back to Aife.
“Husband, we should continue this when there are no other ears.” Was all she said as she continued to walk Anka ahead of her.
Shaken to her core, Saita made sure she walked beside Jethron as they eventually reached the castle. Once inside, Aife directed them to a room. Most of the elders were not permitted to enter. Those who left presented their king with a rolled-up parchment of paper before leaving. As soon as the door was closed Jethron turned to Aife and said sternly, “What is going on?”
“It is not the first time that Kaiden has been to our planet, my love.”
Jethron looked to Saita and tilted his head, “That’s not the name your mother called you by.”
Saita tried to think where she had heard that name before and then it dawned on her. “I think it was my father’s name or my family name. I don’t recall hearing it frequently.
“It’s your second name.” said Anka as she managed to remove herself from Aife, “It was also your father’s first name.”
Saita seemed to think this over before she looked up at Aife and said, “I know it is strange, especially since some of my memories have been returned to me, but I would prefer to be called Saita.”
“I think we are missing something a little more telling.” Said Doran, “Saita has been here before?”
“How can you not remember?” begged Anka.
“There is a lot I don’t recall.” Apologised Saita, “There is so much I should tell you.”
“Before any of that can happen.” Interrupted Aife, who seemed to be growing increasingly agitated, “I must warn you…”
The doors of the council room opened once more, and Saita felt her blood boil when she saw who entered. Two Heavenly, the old man and the younger one with the long plait. The same primal fury that had erupted when she first saw Edzeeker on the hospital planet was starting to spread through her body.
Marks yet to come to the surface of her skin flared in blue flames, startling all in the room. The younger Heavenly immediately stepped before the older one, ready for what Saita was about to unleash. She knew she needed to control her fury but as the flames spread to her hands, she knew she wouldn’t be able to hold out too long.
“Enough of that!” said the older Heavenly as he snapped his fingers.
The flames seemed to lower a little before they blazed back. The Heavenly seemed startled and said, “You have come far.”
“Talk. Fast.” Saita choked out the words as she clenched her hands.
“I warned you this would happen.” Said the younger as he continued to shield the older Heavenly.
No one seemed willing to get between the fight that was brewing in the room. Instincts Saita didn’t know she had alerted her to everything in the room. Soldiers were surrounding them, and the air stank with the energy that she couldn’t understand. They were prepared for anything that the aliens would do.
“You grew into a fine young woman.” Commented the elder. “I am glad you survived your ordeal.”
It was too much for Saita who shifted her weight to launch herself at the man. However, before she could, Anka stepped between them and grabbed her in a bear hug, refusing to let her go. Saita was forced to control the flames to prevent the young woman from getting injured.
“Let. Go.” Spat Saita, “You know what they wanted to do to your son!”
“Our son and yes, I know. But now isn’t the time to fight, Saita, please. You need to listen and understand what they are.”
“I would very much like to know what they are myself.” Said Jethron, his own fury at this development barely held in check.
“It is what I have been trying to tell you, Husband.” Said Aife softly, “These are Aids.”
“Aids are only born as spirits to…”
“Those who need great guidance.” Finished the old Heavenly, “Isn’t that right Sedeath?”
Jethron could feel his aid pale and retreat to the further recesses of his mind. Whoever these Heavenly were, they scared one of the most powerful Dekai kings to ever live.
“We are the first.” Said the old man as he turned to look at Jethron, “And we plan to be the last as our curse is something that cannot be broken.”
“What do you mean the first?” said Doran as he came to stand next to Saita.
He gently lay a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her, but he had seen her memories and he knew the fury she was feeling. The older Heavenly smiled sadly at the seething woman and said softly, “I created the first Fell Dragon.”
“Elder!” snapped the younger Heavenly.
“You were young, you didn’t know.” The Heavenly patted the younger man on his head, “Nothing more than a child.”
“I thought Edzeeker…” started Jethron as he too came to stand next to Saita to grip her other shoulder.
“Who do you think guided him?”
The old man chuckled before getting seated at the table. Not once did his eyes leave Saita’s. The girl was practically foaming at the mouth in her fury. The room was stunned into silence.
“I don’t understand.” Said Doran softly, “You don’t look like a Dekai to me.”
“Of course, I don’t. I let people see which makes them more comfortable to be around me. I am a spirit inhabiting an ancient body. If you knew what I really looked like, you would die of fear.”
Jethron’s fingers dug into Saita’s shoulder as she finally strained against him as she screamed, “What kind of game are you playing? You saved me as a child only to have me experimented on. What about sealing my ability to travel through time? Why did you help Edzeeker?
The younger one turned to the older Heavenly and he seemed confused, “Master?”
“The order of those events for me is not the same as what they are for you.” He said.
“Explain!” she roared, “Why did you do this?”
“To undo what I did.” The elder sighed heavily.
“Master, she is rabid, she won’t listen.” Warned the younger Heavenly.
With that insult, it was the last straw for Saita. She threw off everyone holding onto her and launched herself into the older Heavenly. Just as her flames were about to reach him, something hit her squarely in the chest and she was thrown into the air. No, not thrown, lifted.
“Saita, I sense your fury. I do. But I need you to calm down.” Whispered the voice of Aife in her ear.
Fury had blinded her, but now that she was forced to calm down, Saita found herself high above the table she had launched herself at. She had never been scared of heights before, but this was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
“What don’t you understand!” she screamed at the Dekai queen. “It’s thanks to them that I was made into a monster. Had my life taken away and my parents murdered. I have every right to be angry at them.”
“I am not saying you don’t. I am asking that while you are in my castle you behave with the semblance of a dignitary of your race.”
“I have only known a handful of years of happiness in over two decades.” Saita hissed, “That’s on them!”
“Your Majesty, she has every right to tear me limb from limb, whether you are keeping her up there or not, it will eventually happen.” Shouted the Heavenly from the ground. “She will burn through your wings if you aren’t careful.”
“At least listen to what he has to say. You may want him dead, but he was my daughter’s saviour.” Aife held Saita’s head to her shoulder and the human couldn’t move without fear of falling and injuring herself once more. “You are now her aunt, please, for my family’s sake, listen to what they have to say.”
Saita mumbled something and forced the flames back into the marks. Once the heat had lessened, Aife slowly returned to the ground. Jethron was at her side immediately.
“Are you hurt?”
“Singed, I am fine.” Aife slowly placed Saita on the ground and released her. “The fury in this one is not something I expected.”
The guards moved to grab hold of Saita. The human woman turned to look them in the eye before saying, “I will break every bone in your bodies through your armour if you touch me.”
The warning was heeded as the guards quickly stepped away from her. The older Heavenly roared with laughter, “Still a little spitfire. So, did you meet the warrior queen?”
Saita was too angry to speak, all she could do was nod her head. The younger Heavenly still placed himself between her and his charge. He was surprised when the older man grabbed his robe and pulled him back.
“Sit down.” He ordered.
It seemed that the order was for all of those in the room. All of them seated themselves, except for Saita, who went to the opposite end of the table and remained standing.
What could the Heavenly possibly have to say after this point? I guess you'll have to join next week to find out!
