It's a sad reality that many of us live in a shallow world. We all make an effort to put our best foot forward to make sure that what we show the world is our best side. We plaster on a smile and make sure that we look our best at all times.
But what happens when we start to peel back the layers of this facade? When do we let down our guard and start to actually talk with someone? That's when we realize that so many of us are living in a world of sadness. When we have deep conversations with one another, we come to realize that everyone is struggling, and everyone is hurting.
We all have our own unique stories and pain points. We all have our own individual battles that we're fighting on a daily basis. We may not always express our struggles to the world, but these battles are there. Whether it's depression, anxiety, trauma, or any other form of mental illness, so many of us are silently suffering, and it's deeply heartbreaking.
Our generation, is made up of people who try to cope with their pain through various means. Some turn to substance abuse, some turn to self-harm, some turn away from the people they love most, and some simply put on a brave face and try to go on with life.
We can't boldly fish out the prime causes of this, but the most common ones are related to the digital age. Social media, the internet, and technology have drastically changed the way we interact with each other and our environment. In some ways, this has been good, as it has allowed us to stay connected with loved ones, and keep up with news and events around the world.
But in other ways, it has been detrimental to our mental health. Constant comparison to others on social media, the pressure to perform and fit in, and the lack of meaningful connections that come with screen time, can all take a toll on our mental health. The pressure to succeed academically and professionally, the cost of living, and the fear of the unknown, can all be sources of stress and anxiety.
But if we want the world to be a better place, it's our responsibility to reach out to those who are struggling, and to those who are living in a world of sadness. We need to create an environment in which everyone can feel safe and supported. We need to be there for one another and lend an ear to those who need someone to talk to.
We may not be able to solve all of the problems of the world overnight, but we can start by supporting one another and listening to each other's stories. We can create a network of support and understanding that will help us all to cope with our own unique struggles.
So, don't be deceived by appearances; everyone looks okay until you have a deep conversation with them. Let's all make an effort to reach out to one another and help create a world in which no one has to suffer silently. We are all in this together, and it is time that we start taking mental health seriously. It’s time to recognize the "Sad Generation, and start taking steps towards a brighter future for us all.
