In the mornings, you emerge from the bottomless depths of a dream and return to this world, although sometimes you don’t want to. And sometimes you are glad to be back. That lethargic world of sleep is so strange, it is like space, the universe, an unfathomable, unknown country, although it is visited every night. The world of sleep resembles an underwater one.
It is like a huge sunken palace with many rooms.
There, heavy curtains flutter slowly over the open windows. They are moved not by the wind, but by the current of water. A huge chandelier sways, a flash of light, having slipped into the depths, touches it, crystal balls begin to tinkle quietly, many small reflectors shine.
As if pulled by an invisible hand, a silk tablecloth slides off the table... Fragments of a porcelain plate float; the water rocks them as if they were weightless. A heavy silver candlestick sinks into the sand at the bottom, no one will light it, all the flames go out under the water. But it is so peaceful there.
Shiny colorful dream fish lazily wiggle away, moving their bodies sleepily but gracefully; suddenly the sharp fins of nightmare sharks pierce the water, everything around them becomes blurry. Then the lively golden fish of good dreams rushed back.
Beautiful mermaids laugh silently with their sleek dolphin-like bodies; the water caresses their long green hair, closing their violet-expressive eyes with long silver eyelashes. Their siren voices intertwine with the roar of the water battle, entangling you like nets, dragging you deep into the depths of a dream, seducing, convincing you not to return to reality. It's quite simple; mermaids speak melodiously, as if singing. Sleep is so close to death... You just need to stop drifting.
But you shake yourself and wake up. For a moment, you regret exchanging the colorful, weightless unreality of life underwater for a rainy July morning, for everyday life. But you open your eyes and forget everything. You go to live, so that in the evening you can dive into the ocean of sleep again. Sometimes you just can't fall asleep. Maybe you're afraid of something that's out there, under the water?..
You know, one day the mermaids will tie your arms and legs with seaweed, and cover your eyelashes with their scales. And you'll never wake up. You hope it won't be long.
So sleep... And don't be afraid of anything.
