Here is my ZapFic Entry:
In Text:
Rob had never been on a date before, and he wanted a hot one! He booked a flash restaurant with a fireplace and requested to be sat next to it. Through the night, his date, Lois, complained that she was too hot. Rob had met his dream girl!

And now for some waffle; this is more for me than you, but thanks for coming by my entry:
It has been a very long time since I completed a 'ZapFic' challenge, or a five minute freewrite. I used to do these regularly when I first came to Hive about 9 months ago, but over time, I don't know why, it just turned out that I hadn't done one!
I think part of this goes to the idea that I never really did much creative writing, and I thought it would be fun to dip my toe into some short pieces. But, the bug took, and I found myself searching out other fiction spaces all over Hive. I guess what I'm saying is, the ZapFic competition is like a gateway drug - it gets you hooked, and then you want more and more and more!
For other writers out there looking for spaces, I'd recommend a couple of spots:
- The Ink Well - it's like a bigger ZapFic, instead of 240 characters, you get 1,000 words to develop a piece. It's worth a look, each week you get a prompt and off you go!
- Cinnamon Cup Coffee Competition - each week, they also offer a creative prompt, this one is good because the situations can be quite absurd, which makes them a lot of fun.
I've also popped in to say 'Howdy' to
- Dreemport - every week these guys have a word of the week challenge, and establish connections with different groups. Recently they had a three part fiction challenge, where you had to write a story over three weeks. That was actually a really enjoyable experience.
- Scholar and Scribe - I like this little community, but only posted in here a couple of times. It's definitely worth a look. They encourage all forms of creative writing expression.
And finally, if you havn't been on the ZapFic / 5 Minute Freewrite or Picture Tells a 1000 words, I'd encourage you to check them out in freewriters - after all, you might find you catch 'the writing bug' and end up hooked like me.
